Next years outlook

Created by: MarkWinnipeg
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2020
Published: Oct. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For the Expansion draft I had the Jets exposing,

Forwards
Stastny, Lowry, Perrault, Harkins, Appleton

Defense
Poolman, Bealieu, Niku, Stanley, Nogier

Goaltenders
Comrie and Berdin

I had the Kracken select Sami Niku in this exercise but if it were one of the other RFA's wouldn't be a that horrible for the organization.

Poolman and Stastny were re-upped after the expansion draft.

If not Stastny, RNH, Denault, Strome and Tierney after they get one year arbritation may be available next off season if we want a bridge to Perfetti for a couple more years. Or if Little is healthy he takes up his cap space

Over all there looking in pretty good shape, could even add a 3-4 million Defensman this off season 2020 and not be up against it to much, not signing Poolman would give you the space needed in 2021.

Pionk should get 5m at most, anything over 5.25 imo is overpayment. Maybe 5x5 is fair for him. I like the looks of the team. Think we’d have to hope that perfetti is ready for this year. Unless stastny has a good 2020-21 season, it’ll be a reach to bring him back as a 2C. None of the other UFA C’s will take a 1 year deal.

I mean his injury looks like it’s going to be a career ending one, so he’s probably gonna be on LTIR for the rest of his contract.

I had Pionk at 6.5 million as on the high side of what he gets, if he gets less great more cap space for us. With the other UFA C's it wouldn't matter if they took a long term deal, You'd be fine for a couple years and sort it out after. Point is there Cap situation for the next few years with the flat salary cap isn't as dire as other teams at least.

He most likely won't be back, by the end of this season that's two years on Ltir. Can't think of any players who have been on the shelf that long and come back to play.

Heinola and Perfetti should both be ready by 21-22. I also wouldn’t give a 36 year old Stastny a 2 year deal, only 1 if he performs well this season.

Again Stasnty is worst case, you might get him as low as 4 million on a two year contract and only be paying the two of them 5-6 million including bonuses gives them the oportunity to shelter Perfetti when he first comes in if they choose to

I could actually see Heinola being traded in a win now move if Samberg shows he can play top 4 minutes. We have Stanley, Niku and Chisholm who can play on the 3rd pair in the next couple years. If Samberg and Morrissey are in the top four on the left side don't see room for him. Love him as a player though.

Looks alright, hopefully Perfetti is as good as the hype he's getting, that D still looks sketchy to me though, just too many of the same kind of dman and not built for playoff hockey, should've traded up with Detroit to grab that Grans kid in the 2nd round.

We would be banking on development for sure on the D side, but if they didn't reup poolman we could add another top for D in this off season 2020 if they dumped Perraults Cap hit and it would still fit next year.

Totally think Heinola should be on the block, if they can use him in a package to get a big RHD with term or an RFA then they should do it.

With Little on LTIR and if we dump Perrault with niku as a sweetener. We should have eight million in cap space after bringing Roslovic and Harkins with a roster of 21 I'd do a big package that had Cirelli and Cernak coming back bridging both would cost 7 million at worst.

Connor Scheiffelle Wheeler
Ehlers Stastny Laine
Harkins Cirelli Roslovic
Copp Lowry Appleton

Morrissey Cernak
Poolman Pionk
Bealieu Demelo

Would be great but I just don't see Tampa parting with Cirelli, could maybe pry Cernak from them and he'd be a nice partner for Morrissey, wonder what it would take to get just Cernak from Brisebois.

Not as much as you think there not in a great spot cap wise. Cernak helps the least space wise

Yeah I know, they're right up against it and Cernak will be the cheapest, I'd take one of their cheaper extra bodies to help with their cap situation, a guy like Paquette would clear a little bit for them.

Will be interesting to see what they end up doing, just don't see them parting with Cirelli or Sergachev.

They may not have a choice, the amount of teams that can take on killhorn or Johnson is shrinking every day

Chris Tierney out of Ottawa is an interesting center target to, he's probably heading to a one year deal through arbritation if we could package something with Perrault to make the money work and if he'd sign for 4 * 4.5ish

Can't believe they didn't trade Killorn first thing, if Brisebois was prioritizing who he wanted to keep as opposed to who other teams would want between Johnson, Killorn, Gourde or Palat he seriously misplayed this whole situation.

Yeah I've been advocating for a Tierney or Tierney like acquisition for years, need a better 3C who isn't an offensive black hole and a 3C that can actually move into the 2C spot if an injury occurs unlike the plugs the Jets currently have tried there who have no business seeing any time in the top 6.

I did a run down on killhorn on another thread if he puts the right 16 teams on his list it becomes a 30 team list pretty quick with the tight cap
