Deal With Yotes Seems Imminent

Created by: MG1986
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2020
Published: Oct. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs need cap flexibility, they have Hossa on LTIR just sitting there. They need to relieve some cap space and real dollars. Seems like only a matter of time before the Leafs make some sort of deal to bring in some permanent LTIR cap relief and there are only so many players around the league it could work with. I think there is a fit between these 2 teams to make a deal like this. With Crouse, Dvorak and Garland, this team gets even meaner (Crouse), tougher and better at PK (all 3 kill penalties).

I honestly cannot see the Coyotes declining this deal. Mikheyev is a cheap top-6, Kerfoot is a better offensive player than Dvorak, plus SDA is a solid B prospect and they recoup a 2nd round draft pick. Based on the position that the organization is taking, there is no way they can afford to keep Hossa on the books - insurance on him covers only a max 75% of that contract, so that's pure dead money.

Insurance on Hossa only covers up to 75% of the contract. So there is still 25% of that of real money that the Coyotes need to pay out - that's pure dead money.

You can blame John Chayka for the mess that this team finds itself in but I honestly think the Coyotes would benefit a great deal from this deal.

Sure give away their whole team when they couldn't even give up 10.5 million of OEL in salary starting in 2021

Only thing you gave up was Mikheyev

It's basically 3 NHLers for 2 NHLers, but both Leafs moving are more offensive then anyone coming over to them. Besides, the Canucks were dead set on them taking Lou Erickson's contract as part of the OEL deal. Would Coyotes fans be happy with that? Doubt it.

About 0.5% of Leafs ACGMs are credible. This is not part of that group. I’m not wasting my time here with fanboys

I tend to lean the way of the yotes declining this but not far from accepting it. They do need cheap players... Even cheaper than mikheyev. I think it would be a purely futures and picks package but they would need to take kerfoot for the salary to work on our end. Something like kerfoot SDA Hallander and 2 2nds for Dvorak garland and Hossa

Dvorak>>Kerfoot
Garland>> Mikheyev
Crouse>SDA+ 2nd

Sure they might like to dump Hossa, but you underestimate those 3, especially Garland imo. He's a top 6 F imo, on a sub 1M deal
