Surely players are being promised a significant role in DET by Yzerman. It would explain why they sign such cheap deals! They hope to cash out after their contract.

It could be lowkey one of the best deal so far

Other teams are running out of money there's going to be a few middle six forwards without a contract if they don't settle

Red Wings continue to make smart deals this off-season. Gives me hope that this team may actually be watchable next year

I’m not sure where he fits just yet, but I welcome any cheap player like this to Detroit! He had some good years in Tampa with Yzerman. Hopefully he can rebound to his old self in Detroit

I love that he's not signing anyone for more than 2 years. So much cap flexibility for future FA classes when we're not in the middle of the apocalypse

Really good deal. He did well in Colorado/Ottawa so this could be a steal

Curious to see who excels the most playing center; Fabbri, Namestnikov, and Ras should all be given a fair amount of time.

Yzerman: 'Sign a cheap shortterm contract at Detroit, play some big minutes and we'll trade you at 50% retained to a contender at the TDL'

Gotta be something like that. Detroit is definitely not the most interesting place for those UFA's to sign with. Good deal once again for DET

Yes. They could finish 7th or 8th in the Atlantic division, lol.

This one really surprised me. Surely, he could've gotten at least equal money and term on a playoff contender. He was on close to a 40 point pace last season despite playing 3rd line minutes.
