That'd be big but BUF can't afford that. Olofsson isn't signed and they won't be carrying a 20 man roster.

Its a bit of a risk , one year of hall. Your passing on a guy like hoffman or duclair who you probably could have had for 3 or 4 seasons.

they could just buy him out during the next period and his hit is only 2.5 for next year

Can't sign those guys right now. Dahlin and Joker need deals next year and a flat cap. And almost all the FA deals this year are 1 or 2 years. There will be plenty to choose from next year.

If either of them wanted to go to Buffalo, though.

I think, with just one year of Staal, it might make sense for them to see what they've got before deciding whether it makes sense to invest long term. If it works, they can extend Hall eight years and develop one of their three young centers to play with him. If not...

That's what the Penguins thought when they paid a 6th to trade him, so they wouldn't lose.... I don't even remember. Some random defenseman Vegas wouldn't even have claimed.
