Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2020
Published: Oct. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team would have about 18 mill coming off the books next year. I would go and trade Risto for picks/prospects and call up Borgen, Bryson, or Samuelson. That would free you another 4 plus mill. Gives you over 22 mill to resign Hall, Dahlin, and Joker. You'll end up losing a player like Miller to the Exp draft, so that frees up another almost 4 mill. Giving us about 26 mill in cap. And we can always BO Okposo and save a couple mill a yr or trade him and picks for someone to take his contract. We can certainly make this work.

Hall 5 years 8.25 Avg

Dahlin 7 yrs 9 Avg

Joker 5 Yrs 5.25 Avg

No offense but I don't see hall staying there long term, I think he signed there because your top line isn't set in stone and he will be able to play with Jack and put up points for a retry at a big contract with a contender.

I think that Dahlin contract is reasonable. May be able to even get it into to 8's. I would pay Seattle to take Okposo

You a free to believe that, but I think every person outside of your fan base knows that's not necessarily true.

Sabres had one of the best d in the league, especially with Krueger. Even after Hutton completely fell a part. Ullmark was decent till he got hurt and missed 2 months. The Sabres just couldnt score. They had no center depth as well. They added Hall, Staal, Cozens, and Eakin and they are probably not done moving pieces and may be able to upgrade over Hutton. Not to mention adding JJ Peterka and Quinn in the next couple of years.

just buy hutton out. horrible asset management to pay someone a 2nd round pick to save 916,667 in cap space for 2 years.

I think this puts us in the coversation for the playoffs, lets see what kind of goaltending we get.

Our top 6 went from:

Olofsson-Eichel-Reinhart
Skinner-johansson-Sobotka/Vesey/kahun

to

Hall-Eichel-Olofsson
Skinner-Staal-Reinhart

massive improvement

Hall, 1 singular player, does not make the Sabres a contender. This isn't the NBA.
Buffalo did get better over the past several weeks, but so did many other teams that were already better than them.

Pump the brakes.

Still not as good as Tampa, Boston or Toronto...so you’re immediately chasing a wildcard with teams like NYR, Car, NYI, etc.

Doesn’t exactly scream “contender”

Boston getting older, Tampa is not going to be the same, and Toronto has filled their roster out with former Sabres who are so awful bad apparently. Sabres compete with Toronto, thats why all these maple leafs fans are scared and talking $hit

They’re a lot closer to Tor then people will say.. what’d Tor finish points wise ahead of Buffalo last year? 3/4 with like two weeks left? Then the Sabres collapsed. Add in Staal and Hall, you are looking at closing that gap. So if Buf isn’t a contender, neither is Tor (and realistically, neither are as Bos and TB still hold the division pretty firmly)

It remains to be seen what improvement they bring. If thompson/eakin/cozens score 50 goals combined, i think that would be a success, just hope they dont get run over defensively.

i admire your optimistic view.
however, i feel bad about how it will realistically come crashing down around you and you equally optimistic friends.

Lol what are you even saying the two buffalo guys we signed are depth pieces. Bogosian is a decent piece for our bottom pair he just couldn't get in your lineup and Vesey is a big body that we could use. They aren't making us Stanley Cup material but they add character and edge. Buffalo does not compete with Toronto they will be lucky to be a 30 win team this year.

Sabres making the playoffs is about as optimistic as Tor actually making a run in the playoffs. So here we both are. I would like to know what you think is actually so unrealistic about Buffalo pushing for a playoff spot, which is all I really said. But you will deflect and make some comment about how Buffalo just sucks and accept it. Cool, we get it. Tor is the greatest hockey to ever hockey. Thanks for stopping in yet another Sabres thread to show us all how much you don’t care 👍

They were a 30 win team during a shortened season, and added Hall and Staal along with Dahlin’s continued growth... so I’ll put all my internet points on easily getting 30 wins, **** make it 35. Are Tor fans that insecure honestly? Bogo sucks, in time you’ll see. Vesey is whatever, just another guy.

i didn't say they couldn't push for a playoff spot. all i said is that you were being overly optimistic about this team pushing Toronto.
you talk about them being a 30 win team, what does that even mean, what benchmark is that? Last season every team in the league was a 30 win team with the exception of Detroit and Ottawa and even Ottawa could have got hot in the last month and won 5 of 11. 30 wins means nothing...

i'm not a Maple Leaf fan either. I can't stand them as much as you and the next guy,

You must have missed where the other guy said they wouldn’t even be a 30 win team, which I replied as being utterly stupid.. because of what you just mentioned. Tor was 4/5 points up with two weeks left. If they don’t get much better (adding former Sabres who aren’t good won’t do this) they won’t be leaps and bounds ahead of Buffalo. Anything can happen if they’re close. Is Tor the better team? Yeah, but will their record indicate it by the end of the year, could be closer than people think
