Description
Wild's offseason is all but done now. Belpedio shouldn't ask for much more than what Kähkönen makes. That clears all our signings and moves unless trades are made or Rossi is signed.

So let's look at the roster.

We have an elite defense filled with defensive abilities and some offensive weapons. Our defense is one of, if not the best in the league. Our defense will help the goaltending a lot.
Talbot - Stalock is a good duo, not great, but good. They will most likely do their job but nothing more. The real question is offense. Fiala is a proven talent, but Kaprizov has yet to play an NHL-game. He has a very high ceiling but everything can still collapse. Parise might hurt himself again or just decline. Same goes with Zuccarello, who had a very disappointing season in 2019-20. The winger depth is there, but we have no number-one center who could carry us through hard times (like Central Division examples Scheifele, Toews, O'Reilly, MacKinnon etc. do). We can have up to three donut-shaped lines, a very bad situation to be in. Rossi, if signed, is still a raw talent and I guess he won't make a breakthrough just yet.

Possible trade candidates if Guerin decides to sell at the deadline are Johansson, Foligno, Bjugstad and Bonino. All are on the final year of their contracts. They should fetch us a nice package of picks. Then there is Dumba, who should be gone by expansion draft. It's a much better option to protect 7-3-1 than 8-1. Dumba, at the moment, is a luxury we cannot afford because Seattle surely wants to have him in their lineup. He will probably be gone before the deadline as well and should get us a very nice return.

Two seasons of selecting in the top-10 and letting our new core mature into their prime should get us back into the playoffs and possibly (hopefully) far this time.

The Wild probably won't be great if this is how we go into the season, but at least we're not the 2016-2017 Avalanche

I really think like that Talbot signing for Minnesota.

I do too, but he is not a clear number one who carries the team to four consecutive Cups and wins five Vezinas while doing it. He is just good. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I edited my comment cause it wasn't what I wanted it to say.. Lol, I don't like the signing myself, think they would've been better off with one of the other UFA goalies.

Well, this just got a bit awkward... : D

I agree with him not being the best on the market. But spending 6M on Markstrom is not ideal when he could dip real hard. We went to the market looking for a short-term, stop-gap option and Talbot is that. By the time Stalocks contract expires, Kähkönen is hopefully NHL-ready and after Talbot's tenure, he will be the number one. At least theoretically...

I'm wondering which forward you see as so valuable that the Wild should protect 7-3-1 vs 8-1? With 8-1they protect Parise, Zucc, Fiala and probably EEK. Also protect Suter, Spurg, Brodin and Dumba. With 8-1 Seattle Probably takes Greenway or Soucy?

Kaprizov does not need to be protected, but the 7-3-1 list goes like this: Parise (NMC), Zuccarello (NMC), Fiala, Eriksson Ek, Greenway. There are two spots left to be filled, but those are the main five. When protecting 8-1, Greenway is the one who would be exposed. If there is a great trade for Dumba out there, why not taking it and securing Greenway at the same time?

Yep I agree. Based on the roster today Greenway gets taken with protecting 8-1 If Dumba gets traded then you'd protect 7-3-1. But with today's roster I'd rather have Dumba over Greenway.
