Holy sh*t.

Sakic with the steals.

Btw Seattle's gonna love the expansion draft. There's either Toews or Graves available for certain now.

It's weird because Girard is signed long-term and Graves just signed for three years. I wonder if Sakic is unhappy with Byram's development. If Toews gets a long-term extension, how does Byram even crack the roster?

One of the D will probably be gone to Seattle anyway. Imo winning is a higher priority that gifting a roster spot to Byram, he has to earn one

They lost in the first round, and got worse this offseason. Binnington got exposed and I’m not sure that he’s a starting goalie.

Yeah I guess I didn't even think of the expansion draft. One of those LD will be unprotected and will definitely get taken by Seattle

So with this and the likely Pietrangelo signing with Vegas, it’s inevitable that we’re going to see a Vegas vs. Colorado western conference final now.

Unless another goalie scares them again man what a lame excuse

I would say that the Isles are going to be worse off without Toews, and they probably will, but again...with Barry Trotz...they'll be alright.

The islanders probably couldn’t find a way to shed cap so traded a piece they couldn’t resign. Also now the Avs really probably going to do more move since signing Toews and Jost will uptake more than the cap they have left.

They traded his rights, wait for the contract to be signed and then we'll see if it's worth it

I think this means Cole is going to be a UFA next year.

I don't think it's that he's unhappy. I think Byram is too good for junior now, but may not crack the line-up with the depth they have. I think Byram plays in Europe for a year.

Cole's contract expiring at the end of the year, and Johnson getting older and slower I think he will get a fair shot at a spot soon enough

Exactly. Next year, Cole leaves and that spot is immediately take by Byram.

He's going to have 7 Defensemen Available right now including Byram and Ian Cole is ALWAYS tradable to a team before the trade deadline.

To be honest not surprised by this, when Towes and Pulock went to arbitration one of them was likely going to go. With Barzal to sign they cant risk arbitration going in his favour, between them Pulock is the better d-man, at least they got back 2 seconds for him rather than nothing.

GREAT move by GM Joe Sakic because he just landed Ian Cole's replacement with two second round picks. Colorado just got younger, just got stronger, got stronger numerically and just set themselves up PERFECTLY to trade Ian Cole at the TRADE DEADLINE. Ian makes 4.25mil and is a UFA and he is perfectly setup to be used as trade bait going into next years playoffs. The only player that should be concerned about this trade folks is Ian Cole because he's most likely on his way out of Colorado once the deadline comes up. For those that think Bowen Byram isn't going to be ready have no idea of what's going to happen in the future and how CHESS is played. This trade is as Masterful of how Joe Sakic was when he was on the ice in the playoffs.

As for the Islanders they needed to NOT sign another Defensive Player IF they had any hopes on signing Matty B going forward. They landed TWO second round picks which they desperately needed since they were depleted last year in regards to draft picks. Their pile of picks is back and full and they now need to relieve even more salaries (IF they can) to make sure they can sign those players that they truly need.

Good trade for both but in my opinion Colorado WINS here. Smart move Joe!!!
