Holy crap I hate this trade

Created by: Hawkisles
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2020
Published: Oct. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Toews is a top 4 guy now and had top pairing potential. Neither of those picks will get a return that even resembles that.
2. Our left side on defense just got a lot worse, and now we’re pretty much forced to keep Leddy, who was our best option for a trade that could drop cap without throwing away future assets. Losing Leddy through waivers would have been better on all fronts than this.
3. Those 2nd Rounders will, at best, be used to drop a bad contract, but I feel like we have enough prospects in our system where if a team demanded the equivalent of 2 2nd rounders in futures, we could have supplied that.
3. Even from a cap clearing perspective, Toews was the one who wanted the least money. Trading Pulock would have been the better option. There are more right shots still on the market, he would have yielded a much better return and we still have Wilde and Dobson to replace him in the long term. You can’t tell me Aho or Bolduc will effectively fill in for Toews, short or long term.

I think bottom pair as well but a lot of scouts see 2nd pairing D after his great season. I have a lot more faith in Aho - I think he can be a stud

I like Aho too, I was always impressed w his stint in 2018. Bolduc tho, I see pretty much as Mayfield but a lefty

I agree with you that he’s a left mayfield, but he skates like Noah Dobson - could that make him a 2nd pairing D? I guess we’ll find out

    I

    NOT
    UNDERSTAND
    THIS
    TRADE

There are eight teams that can afford to take on a 4-5 million dollar player right now and fill out a roster after signing there own RFA'S so moving anyone to clear cap is going to cost a loy. You have two big ticket ones in Pulock and Barzel. Most likely have to buy out Leddy.

Since you want to see barzal play in a more offensive minded system, barzal for Eichel . 1 v 1

I think we don’t really have a LHD prospect with Top 4 potential, which is why I was so against the Toews trade. Now we have to rely in Leddy, who’s a 2nd pairing at best, and Pelech, who is a 2nd pairing guy held aloft by his good chemistry with Pulock.

Sheesh...I'd rather watch Eichel... He does all barzals does he's just better defensively and bigger imo...but I don't watch much of Barzal vs Eichel

I will die on the hill that Aho is a 2nd pairing caliber defenseman right now. He’s going to be a poor mans toews. Bolduc im not that high on but a lot of people are so we’ll see

I don’t think pelech is as good as the rest of the fanbase thinks he is - they think he’s a #1, but the reality is his lack of offense means he’s just a good top pairing D. He plays some of the toughest minutes in the league and still has an elite defensive impact, he definitely brings top line value.
