I predicted he’d get 5x8M; pretty close. I’m not a fan though of him getting a full NMC.

not bad.
how much you think he lost due to this current market. 1.2? .2?

No State income tax in Nevada though, he benefits from that

He’s very good now, then he’ll be good at an okay cap hit, then he won’t be, then he’ll be packaged with a prospect to a rebuilding team to dump cap.

Anyone that voted no is just salty that he didn’t sign with their team. Great signing for the Golden Knights.

They're paying him at a cap hit of 8.8 mil until he is 37. He's not going to be worth it by then, if they decide to buy him out or trade him at that point Vegas is going to start gaining a reputation of signing people and then dumping them. Right now it's a good signing, but they just put themselves in cap hell and they have to pay a 37 year old 8.8 later.

I mean, we all knew it was going to be Vegas. But holy, did it ever turn out to be a huge anchor for the next 7 years. This is basically McCrimmon saying, our window is the next four years

I think this is a very fair contract. They can trade a 1st plus something to get rid of Fleury. Well worth it. For those voting no, what do you think he was worth? Definitely going to fetch $8M plus.

This guy is going to be the next Duncan Keith. He’s got 2 -3years before this contracts looks ugly. He’ll be 31 when the new season starts. This teams roster management is questionable at best. Adding AP and losing Schmidt is an upgrade but does it make a huge difference?

No votes are for paying a 31 year old 8.8 million for the next 7 years. How many years till this deal looks ugly? Vegas also has to now dump Schmidt (probably for less than face value) who was a really really solid Dmen and give up assets to dump Fleury.

I have a feeling that this deal is gonna look terrible very soon. Still, this is what you have to do to get a player like Pietrangelo. Bad deal, but they didn't have a choice.

nice cap situation for vegas, were I every team's GM I won't take Fleury's contract until season starts and let Vegas worry about their cap situation so they offer more to take Fleury's contract or just let him stay there so they get penalties for salary cap violation smile

@edit they traded nate schmidt for bag of pucks so here we go smile

Good deal for the next 2-3 years, so hopefully Vegas can win that cup. The end of this deal is going to weigh them down and allow teams like Colorado and Vancouver to take hold of the West.

WOW now Vegas definitely has to move a few pieces. Chicago should take a 1st for taking MAF with some retention.

While I'm glad it's not my team making this signing, I have to respect Vegas's willingness to go all in. Exciting times to be a golden Knights fan for sure.

Look at their cap structure. No ridiculous AAV's anywhere. This is how you build a championship team in the cap era. Dubas should take note. This team is absolutely stacked at every position now.

Me neither. This deal could look bad in 4-5 years, but their Cup window is wide open. I make this deal all day every day if I'm Vegas GM.

The same post-tax amount would require an 11.1 million dollar cap hit in Toronto, but go off.

Then how do you explain BOS, STL, WASH, & PIT? None of these teams have state/provincial tax exemptions and all have built balanced championship teams w/ great cap management and depth at every position. TOR has failed miserably at cap management, tax or no tax.

If I'm another GM, why would I trade for anyone from Vegas? Let them figure out how to get out of this cap hell they've put themselves in

Because... They have good players you can get on your team for basically free now? 😅

I think Pietrangelo's deal is right around fair market value. Chances are he out performs in the next few years, but gives back some of that value later on. The problem is always that fans and teams never really remember the good years when the player has declined below what the cap hit is worth, but today, I think this deal is fine for Pietrangelo, but it's right on that line of fair.

Where this kind of goes off the rails for me, is that they didn't get much better, and they took on additional cap space. Pietrangelo replaces Schmidt at 5 on 5 and on the PK, however the gap in those areas isn't large, at least not $2.9M worth. If Pietrangelo doesn't get PP1 time, it will be hard for him to justify the additional cost and risk over Schmidt. If he does, I doubt he can act as enough of an upgrade on Theodore to justify the cost.

Vegas is still a very strong team, and Lehner was a great value add, but losing a reasonable (but overpaid) 2nd line center, and upgrading Schmidt to Pietrangelo, I don't know that they are really any better than they were. So it feels like a lot of moving parts to make a splash, but not necessarily like a firm plan to improve in any particular area.
