2020 Canucks - TBL OTT MIN deals

Created by: chc16
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2020
Published: Oct. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The TBL trade looks terrible for TB... but, they get 3 years of cap relief in the end... could swap any of Sutter, Beagle instead. OTT...gets a potential star goalie of the future for eating salary for 1 year that will also get them up to the floor. Could be any pick... spitballing a 3rd. Boeser is a tough deal, but it really addresses needs for both teams. UFA's are just filling gaps until Podkolzin and Lind are ready. Tryamkin… why not?

I need more of an explanation on your idea for the Tampa trade because it completely baffles me how it’s supposed to help the Bolts at all.

How does this help them shed cap for the upcoming season?

None of that gets a 3rd from Ottawa. DiPietro is fine, but Ottawa is fully clogged up in the goalie pipeline. It's always nice to have more shots with goalies, but it's not worth the cost of blocking young players NHL roster spots next year.

5 more years of TJ vs 2 years of LE. In the end its 25 million vs 12 million in salary. I know its a ****e deal, but better than giving up a 1st to get rid of TJ no?

It could be a 7th, or a bag of pucks, or futures that never get paid out. Cap relief and everyone else in deal has only 1 year left on their deals. Plus they are better than much of what OTT can play.

What about 1 year of Sutter or Beagle instead?

But my point is that Ottawa needs the roster spots for this one year more than they would need DiPietro going forward. It's a wasted season anyway in the sense that they're not going to be good, so why would they waste it further by playing Sven Baertschi instead of finding out what you have in a prospect like Rudolfs Balcers or Filip Chlapik ahead of the Seattle expansion draft. Also I don't think either player is better than the players can fill internally, there may be an argument they're better than the Zaitsevs or the Watsons, but they aren't pushing those guys out of a spot to begin with.

For what its worth... they may not even play a season because of Covid… but yes, I totally see your point. Just trying to creatively dump cap space on your team.
