It seems that re-signing guys is the area where GMBM struggles the most. Almost always the player gets more term and/or higher AAV than expected. Granted, a lot of them have proven good for them (Wilson, Orlov, etc.) but the Dillon and Schultz contracts definitely seemed pricey.

I think Schultz would urprise people with a solid D partner and more sheltered minutes/easier companion. But then again it appears they expect him to play 2RD.

Yeah, clearly Laviolette thinks he can get 2017 Schultz to make a comeback paired with Orlov. I'm optimistic it'll work and we'll actually have three competent defensive pairs again, but who knows these days.

Yeah I'd almost bet my house on the Dillon contract getting bought out/unloaded on at least the 4th year

Will GMs ever understand/appreciate age decline?

I think they mostly do understand it, but they get guys they don't think they can afford right now by paying them forever.

If 2nd pair stays Orlov and Jensen, then third pair can get very sheltered minutes, and whether Schultz is paired with Fehervary, Alexeyev, or Siegenthaler, he can help them get some points at evens. I think he'll mostly earn his money on the second power play unit, if the team starts actually playing two power play units and taking both seriously.

I thought Orlov Jensen wasn't working out?

I don't see why not. I think the only reason Jensen might be available would be cap space for a UFA, and the hope that TVR develops into Jensen. Together they played some tough zone stars and they each played against tough competition and did well. I don't want to spend all day running the numbers, but I think they're a good shutdown pair, even though together they sometimes got scored on by other teams' best lines. If you can find a defensive pair that never gets scored on, and actually plays big minutes, then obviously, they'd be better.
