Weegar, as you've shown here, is a top-4 D.

Why does Florida give you the much better player in the deal, plus a pick, for a 23 year old who hasn't done a thing to show that he's anything more than a 3C long term?

Maybe I was undervaluing Weegar, I've edited the trade. Thoughts?

I guess I'm not sure if it's enough to make FLA pull the trigger, but especially if they lose Dadanov and Hoffman, they'll want some forwards.
Although, they still kind of need Weegar at the moment.

Why do we sign Weegar? We have Samberg and Heinola ready to make the jump. If Weegar is a Top4 then our left side is set for 4 years. What about Samberg and Heinola? Niku should of been playing for us and I understand his issues but another good prospect losing value. I am not a Roslovic fan but he hasn't developed yet either.

IMO it makes a bit more sense. I'm just confused as to why the Panthers would move him in the first place though? Given that he's a LD, and was easily their 2nd best dman last year, I'd think that they'd be looking to go with something along Yandle/Weegar/Maybe Stillman? then some combination of Ekblad/Stralman/Nuti/Gudas on the right side (Maybe Stralman instead of Stillman on the left?) The Panthers don't exactly have a long list of dmen in the pipeline ready for NHL minutes...

Just seeing what's out there since the Jets are shopping Roslovic and are looking for a top 4 D in return. Samberg and Heinola (playing on the right side in Finland currently) would have roster spots next year. I don't see the Jets starting with Samberg or Heinola this year although they would be the first call ups.

I definitely don't disagree with you, I was sort of surprised that Weegar was being brought up in trade rumours when it came to a potential Roslovic deal. I think this trade benefits the Jets a lot more then the Panthers so it's probably unlikely they move him...even though I would be all over this.

Agreed. I assume that it had a lot to do with Florida looking to get down to that $70ish mil payroll. I'd assume they resign Weegar, and roll with the (mediocre) offense that they've got. If JQ can get the team to play a much more structure defensive game, they will probably be alright. Can't imagine they try to play the same style and continue to leave Bob hung out to dry.

Are they ready? I would say they are close to being NHL ready, but probably need a little time in the AHL.
Ideally I would like the jets to add another top 4 like Weeger, who fits their timeline, and have Heinola and Samberg as a bottom pairing. Apparently Heinola has been playing on his offside over seas and doing well

I think they’re both capable of playing in the NHL but more development time would benefit them both. Samberg is defensively and physically ready, but needs to work on his offense a bit. Heinola obviously is the opposite, offense and puck moving skills are more than ready, but needs to bulk up a bit and improve his defense.

Also Heinola has been playing 1LHD in Finland so he’s on his normal side.

There was a report that he was playing on the right side earlier in the year

I mean he’s being paired up with a right handed partner and has been listed on the left side in the lineup sheets all of preseason and the regular season, so I’m pretty sure he’s playing on the left. He may have been playing on the right late last season but not right now.

I would try Samberg on the 2ld with DeMelo and Heinola with Poolman. Not sure what kind of season this is going to be and how long it will be. Play the future first and if it fails then bring in Beaulieu and Forbort.
