Description

Ottawa still has cap space, taking a 20 pt 4.5mil salary dump and a low 2nd for 7mil JVR whos still a sound bet for 25 goals a year and a good veteran to play with the kids, without overburdening Ottawa cap. Last year on 3rd line and PP, JVR got 41 pts in shortened season and is a nice complimentary player for Ottawa's youth on top 2 lines and PP. If JVR was paid 5 or 5.5mil a year, he'd be worth alot, but in Philly with Giroux, a healthy Lindblom and farabee: LW is stacked. Ansimov is insurance if Patrick isn't healthy.

Gostisbehere, now healthy could still be moved, although his value is at all time low, with Zamula getting that no.5 spot and team has 2.7mil in cap space for other depth moves

Other destination for JVR could be NASH or NJ, who has cap space and could use JVRs 25goals a year.

with a flat cap JVR is worth nothing..at best

"Insert players name" is a good player. He’s probably "insert extra age years here" years older than the optimal age Ottawa is looking for in a trade and keep situation, so he’s a short timer in Ottawa, and Ottawa would have to trade him. When Ottawa is seriously competing, he’ll be "insert declining age here" or more, which are declining years. Ottawa loaded up on draft picks last draft, now they're looking for complimentary players in the appropriate age range and aren't looking for picks specifically.

Lets be real JVR is a cap dump, there just is no way around it. We would have to pay Ottawa for them to take on 3 more years at 7 million. Our best hope is that he picks up his play to where is worth around that number or Seattle. Otherwise JVR aint leaving.

because JVR still produces and Ansimov: not so much. JVR is overpaid, but for his production only 1-2mil overpaid. JVR, even overpaid will be a top 2 line guy for the next 2-3 yrs of a 3 year deal, and will be expiring when OTT need to resign any of this years draft picks, while ansimov is barely a 3rd liner. JVR would be a good scoring veteran to help the kids learn until they find someone better or the kids develop.

I only put Ansimov in, because he is truly a waste of 4.5mil, whereas JVR for his production would look real good at 4.5mil. If the player coming back for JVR was at least young, a failed prospect who might be reclaimable, or even a solid cheap depth player, then I wouldn't have had OTT add the pick.

If you think JVR at 7mil (and not Skinner at 9mil or johanson in NASH at 8mil and 1st line time or ansimov at 4.5mil) are all truly worth nothing, then I won't bother. But a reliable 25 goals 45-55pts a year is probably worth more than nothing, even at 7mil. Maybe the 2nd was reaching, but ansimov has more negative value than JVR
