One move that solves all our problems

Created by: sabertooth12
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 13, 2020
Published: Oct. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We are 2m over the cap in this scenerio, but I think we could get around it by cap dumping Girgs/Eakin or figuring something out with Okposo's contract. It's doable

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Goligoski, Alex
  2. Raanta, Antti
Additional Details:
Arizona makes this trade to free up $2,500,000 in cap space to sign one of the free agent wingers (Dadonov/Hoffman/Granlund) to take Taylor Hall's spot. Risto paired with Hjalmarsson is the perfect fit for him to balance offense and defense, and both would be a force to play with physically
ARI
  1. Hutton, Carter
  2. Ristolainen, Rasmus
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Retain $1,000,000 on Hutton

Risto has more value than Goligoski, which is why the pick added in isn't higher. Even at 35, Goligoski has relatively good GAR% analytics and is a good veteran two-way guy to pair with Jokiharju for a year. He played pretty well at 23 minutes a night last year and he certainly isn't washed. Raanta is exactly who we need in goal for a year.
2.
BUF
  1. Tuomisto, Antti [Reserve List]
DET
  1. Mittelstadt, Casey [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Try to get a high upside RD prospect for Mittelstadt from any team that still sees potential in him. We will need to replace Risto/Montour/Colin Miller in the coming years

Montour is the guy to move before the season, not Risto. If we can get a 3rd line winger for Montour that would be great. We cannot add more cap, we still need to sign 2 top 6 forwards and our starting goalie

First, we don't need another 3rd line winger, we have Cozens, Thompson, and Kahun to resign if they really need one. I'm fine with getting rid of either at this point, however I like Montour better because of his contract. We know what Risto is and he has needed to go for a long time. It's simply time to move on

I understand that, like I said I think it is a good move and getting under the cap is doable. Vegas did it in one day almost effortlessly

Can I just get back some feedback on the actual moves? The fit, the value, etc... I know the cap is important but this whole site is hypothetical anyways

Vegas is still 1 million over the cap with 2 roster spots yet to fill. To get themselves close they had to trade a quality defenseman that holds value for basically nothing. Vegas has been working extremely hard to try and move MAF contract and at this point appear to have given up because of how difficult it has been.

Yes we need good 3rd line wingers. Cozens is a center. TT has proven nothing and Kahun isn't signing likely. Do you really want Eakin, Girgensons, or TT as Cozens wingers? That doesn't set him up for much offensive success. Risto is a much better player than Montour, Montour will walk after 1 year, trade him now. Risto works well as our 2nd pair RHD.
