... but only if Klefbom is out all season and Bear accepts the same deal as Puljujarvi. Barring any other cap-saving moves, of course.

This is based on the Lightning Mailbag article in The Athletic on Sunday, where Joe Smith states that he thinks Killorn has some value but that TBL will have to pay someone to take Johnson's contract:

"What do you think the market for Killorn or Johnson is? Seems like you guys should deal them now instead of making the mistake the Penguins did holding onto players for an extra three years and receiving little to nothing in return. Thanks for the great coverage of the playoffs! — Brad D.

I think there’s more of a market for Killorn than Johnson. Killorn, coming off a career-high 26-goal season, has just three years left at $4.45 million AAV. He’s a power forward who can play in all situations. I think you could get something for him other than clearing cap space, though I don’t believe it’s enough for the Canadiens’ first-rounder (No. 16). Maybe a future year’s high pick in a package. For Johnson, I still believe he’s a good player, someone who could play in a team’s top six up the middle. But for Johnson, 30, with four years left at $5 million AAV, you’re going to have to give up an asset for someone to take his contract, or potentially pick up some of that salary in a move you make. — Joe Smith"

This is essentially what I did here: a 1st for Killorn (but likely one that is later than #16) and had TBL take back some money on Johnson (Neal's buyout amount, or $1.9M) rather than have them give up an asset.

I think bear is going to get 2.5-3.0 on s short-term deal, maybe Tampa retains 1.0 on killorn?

If it's a 2-year deal I could see Bear getting less than, but close to, $2M. Longer term would raise the AAV, but I doubt Holland will go that route this offseason.

I have no idea whether Tampa would retain on Killorn while taking Neal's $1.9M x 6 cap hit. It seems unlikely.

We can’t do a buyout as it is passed the deadline and we don’t have two arbitration-eligible RFAs. And honestly we simply don’t have room to retain salary.

Pretty sure, in this scenario, Alex Chiasson gets moved. He's one of the league's premier net-front guys, but there are others who can play that role on this roster.

And probably Russell gets moved when Klefbom comes back, hopefully around the deadline.

I'm not sure what the rules are around buying out a newly acquired contract, but you're clearing $7.5M cap space in this scenario. I don't think many teams are willing to take that kind of cap AND give up a 1st.

Well I doubt Killorn and Johnson go to the same place and I doubt we’d get a 1st. I would be delighted if we could do exactly this and re-sigh everyone under the cap. I just don’t think we’d end under the cap and I’m not sure Edmonton accepts.

I've already accepted on Holland's behalf.

Johnson is probably on the books for just 1 year, I wouldn't be surprised if Seattle takes him next summer.
