Not happening but Cirelli OS for SnG

Description
Not happening but this is my wet dream finish for the offseason. Let's be honest, GMs are going to stop answering Sakic's calls after the moves he's pulled off the last 2 years.

Those salary dumps probably don't even get the futures listed here but it's all theoretical. Just shedding the salary to make the deals work under the cap. Token deals and honestly, the Avs would probably have to be the ones sending out the futures. Basically just have them playing golf and sitting out next year's draft entirely...

There's still meat on the bone there if $4.5M and $6M aren't enough for Toews and Cirelli, but with this current environment I don't think those numbers are completely out of the question. Maybe the terms a little shorter and AAV a bit higher so they both have a shot at FA again in a couple years.

Oh and if all that weren't crazy enough, the Expansion draft protections just got REAL interesting...

Argh... it's just too crazy to even think about. Even crazier than adding Hall would've been immediately following the Saad trade had he gone for the 1yr/$6.5M offer. And that defense is still a little young for my tastes, but this would definitely be the last moves we could realistically afford to make.

Yeah, I'm not terribly familiar with the Sabres system besides some googling for prospect lists and was trying to find 2nd and 3rd tier guys outside of the top 10 lists so the trades didn't seem completely ridiculous. They're all just token theoretical salary dump trades cause it would take something absurd like this to make the Cirelli OS work after picking up Toews' RFA rights. Obviously not gonna happen, right?

Yeah we don't have a very sound system. I would be welcome to a Donskoi acquisition though. We could use a RW. Any chance we can do it for just a 4th?

100%. In this scenario I'd even just the picks to move any of these salaries. After trading two 2nd rounders for Toews, and the Cirelli OS requiring the Avs 1st and 3rd, the Avs would be looking at skipping the draft entirely, which isn't a very palatable situation even with the amount of talent you're adding to the roster.

Indeed. Offsets those losses and accommodates those financial commitments.

The Expansion Draft would get interesting though with too many young studs to protect, and it certainly makes the cap situation in the coming years much more hairy. can't expect landeskog and makar to take cheap hometown deals, or for Nate to continue to be paid that far under market value. Lots of ELCs on the way to plug in and make it close to workable but would make it super tight. but oh man, just looking at that group of guys all on one team... it might even rival what the Bolts were rolling out when completely healthy this year.

I'd keep Jost and put him on that line with Cirelli and Nuke. I love the idea of those three together. It pushes JT down and makes for an expensive fourth line, but in my head they give the opposition's top line fits on a nightly basis.

I'm hoping Toews gets a little less or maybe another year at that price. His contract is tough to figure out though.

Otherwise I freaking love it.

You would think Jost could for sure learn a lot from a guy like Cirelli. Could potentially be a very nasty defensive 3rd line.

Jost is more of a pest than we tend to give him credit for. Guessing because he doesn't look the part. Dude draws some penalties though.

Give.Byram.Time.To.Develop

Toews add is to strengthen a potential Dman loss to Seattle AND to give Bryam time to develop.

Not only has Byram only gotten just one season to develop since being drafted, it was a season cut short due to COVID, plus he lost out on training camp this summer plus hes looking at only playing a half/shortened year this year. Let him develop, weve already got enough on the Left side D with Graves/Girard/Toews for christsake

Lol, settle down there killer. We don't know exactly which way the organization is leaning. I've had this debate with several others in these forums/on Reddit and I'm all for giving him another year to develop physically. I think he does need it based on what I've read. but if he kicks down that door and kills camp, or doesn't have any other options besides demolishing the WHL again, you may not give him enough of a challenge to continue improving and stunt him that way. He may be able to go play abroad, but none of this is 100%. You also have to think that at some point the kids gotta be given some time with the big club if he's going to mold himself into the elite guy we think he can be. Yes, we have a deep defense corps now, especially on the left side, but at some point he's gotta make the leap. End of the day I'm with you and I'd probably see Timmins making the team and find somewhere for him to develop, but we'll see what happens.

Regardless, it's a projection on the internet. don't get so worked up over it. it's not like I threw him on the top line with Makar here, sheesh
