You have to go pretty far down the list before saying, "yeah that guy has pretty much no shot at being a NHL caliber player," especially on D. Move Zhuravlyov up above MacDonald and you go six deep on both sides. A couple are maybe borderline, but still.

I don't know how others feel, but I loved the Barron and Foudy picks. Good time to be an Avs fan.

Yeah it's pretty incredible depth Sakic has built up. It's amazing to think that we already have an elite roster, and also have 6 (!!) 1st round prospects to join the team (I counted Timmins as well).

Man, it's really incredible. Thanks for laying this out. Will be interesting to see how they handle working these guys into the rotation to capitalize on all the ELCs to extend the window while maintaining the high level of competitiveness over the next few years. Such a mind-blowing stockpile of assets!

Nice to see it all laid out. Definitely going to see some of those young guys moving in over the next 2-6 years or being used to strengthen areas of need (mostly on the wing).

Still to this day i will never understand Sakic drafting Stienburg. Boogles my mind.
He easily wouldve been available two rounds later.

Also you seem to be missing Ty Lewis, Nick Henry, Sheldon Dries, Nate Clurman?

I agree, if there's any position we're somewhat lacking in it's having a real high-end LW prospect. We could probably also do with another good LHD prospect because after Byram graduates it'll be pretty sparse, with basically only Zhuravlyov as a u23 LHD. But that's nitpicking.

Stienberg was definitely a reach at #63, but apparently the scouts were concerned that there was interest from NYR and were worried they'd lose him before their next pick. NYR had already drafted Morgan Barron 2 years before who's family had strong friendship with Stienburg, and Stienburg even decided to go to the same schools that Barron did in both high school and college.

Our scouts also apparently had their sights set on Alexandrov who went at 62, so they were left scrambling a bit and ended up reaching for a guy they liked.

I know that I left some guys off, but when I got into the 'depth' part of the chart I decided to omit Dries because I don't think he has a long-term future or potential, and generally stuck with younger guys. I also omitted a few lesser prospects simply to keep the list from getting too saturated with names.
