Again nobody wants Toronto's garbage. Why would the Ducks trade Fowler and only get a cap savings of $350k. Come on, the Fowler trade will never happen, Ana is looking to free up millions not thousands. 2nd Trouba is not signing for 5 million for 6 years.

If they want to free up millions than we'll trade 2 seconds for Fowler and Stoner... if Anaheim wants quality forwards they're going to have to take cap back

I swapped garbage Greening for slightly more garbage Stoner

And if Rielly signed for that contract than Trouba can too

Unfortunately he's right, as neither of those trades adequately provide what ANA needs, neither of those trades would go through. Two 2nds doesn't give them the LW, and the inclusion of Greening makes no sense for ANA at all. They'd get better offers elsewhere

Stoner > Greening. Stoner is signed for an extra year tho.

ANA never said they want a F though. They actually want Lindholm and if they have to deal him they will probably want a cheap (cheaper than JVR) forward or a very good young d man (Gardiner +++). That's how I see if unfolding if these two engage.

Also not enough for WPG. Too much mediocre quantity after Gardiner.

I actually disagree, yes Stoner might be a better player than Greening but their contributions are equal (zero NHL affect since both in AHL) Also Greening is slightly cheaper and only has 1 year left

And Yes they want Lindholm signed but they want players that can contribute right now, they don't want prospects, they have a stacked blueline and center core so all that's left is wingers

And you're right that its mediocre quality prospects after Gardiner, my thinking was it's close to December and Gardiner is probably the best defenseman they could get

I want someone to prove to me that Trouba is actually significantly better than Gardiner, besides the fact that he is younger.

Gardiner has scored more. Gardiner has a better plus/minus relative to his teammates. Gardiner plays tougher minutes. Gardiner's relative corsi is better (for those who care about advanced stats). The only thing I can see is that Trouba has played more minutes, but it isn't that significant.

    http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/ratings.php?disp=1&db=201116&sit=5v5&pos=defense&minutes=3000&teamid=0&type=corsi&sort=PCTRelTM&sortdir=DESC

I know Gardiner has his stupid goof ups, but he is actually really good at getting the puck up the ice. I am not trying to say that Gardiner is an elite defenseman, but frankly I don't see that Trouba is either. I think they are both good second pair guys.

Lots of comments....so I will interject.....The Fowler trade.....JVR for Fowler isn't bad....but why do the Leafs need another Dman like Stoner clogging up the works and maybe the cap.
The Leafs Dman are not that bad. Reilly at 22, Gardiner what 24. They're getting better. Zaitsev just starting in the NHL is a 7 year pro and KHL all star. Carrick just starting his NHL career, four year pro. The other guys are interchangeable so happens with almost all NHL so called 5, 6, 7, Dmen. The Leafs have let in too many goals this year....but the defence is only a third of the team and IMO at this stage should only take 1/3 of the blame.

The team that is on pace for 82 points, and has played 4 of 5 games on the road, non knowledgeable folks think the Leafs are a disaster and I don't know why.

BCAPP. I think you're dead on regarding Trouba. I bet hardly any body on this site has seen him play more than 10 games. Seems like he is getting so much good press because it is believed is a 5.5m + Dman. We'll see, almost all the trades on this sites IMO have been slighted towards the Jets.

This love for Trouba kinda reminds of me of when I new guy is hired at work. Some folks think this new guy is the "saviour" Why? He hasn't pissed anybody off yet or has made any mistakes. Almost guaranteed when the new guy has worked for the same period of time as the folks that at the workplace now.....he will have pissed off just as many people and made just as many mistakes. Time to bring in the next saviour.
