Wasn't expecting them to sign a goalie but it's good value I guess. I wonder if Campbell gets moved cause this is a 1 way deal

We needed an AHL goalie as Kaskisuo left, Woll isnt ready to be an AHL starter and Scott was injured and like Woll isnt ready for a full time start.

Plus if Freddie or Campbell got hurt who would be the backup to either guy Woll, that would have been a yikes

Well, yes, but actually no.

Dell's an NHL-caliber goalie, not sure why TOR'd sign him unless one of Campbell or Andersen's getting traded

needed an AHL goalie, Kaskisuo left us and we needed someone to take his spot. Plus should freddie or campbell get hurt we got a capable substitute.

because what if Freddie or Campbell get hurt need a capable guy to fill in. Basically having 3 goalies who can play at the NHL level is smart

I see why Toronto would do it. The question is why would Dell do it.

In truth I have no idea why he came but I dont see him replacing Campbell or Freddie. In general his salary is payed in full at both the NHL and AHL level so either way he gets his money.

I was wondering who Dubas was going to replace Kaskisuo with and man did he do well. The other two I had were former leafs goalies lul.

Does this mean Campbell or Freddy is leaving since it’s a one way deal

One way deal so he’d have to clear waivers before going to marlies

im pretty sure thats the plan cause realistically whose gonna take him. Heck if there is no AHL season the NHL may allow a taxi squad like with the playoffs. But they got till January to figure that out.

Now that we see this, the argument that Smith was a bargain compared to the market is gone. Smith is much closer in ability now to Dell than to Greiss for example, and yet got smack dab in the middle contract wise (when we look at the bonus potential) with a NTC. How Kenny didn't push him down to 1 mil total, no special clauses, I will never know.

probably the only team willing to pay him 800k to play in the minors, as 2-way deals are worth less if you are in the AHL. Leafs taking advantage of having actual money

Well, if Smith is a bag of poop, the Oil will gladly take him to boot Smith off the roster haha. But all in all Smith may be just fine....just can't believe he is getting paid double Dell.

He played pretty well down the stretch, thought he'd get a bit more from a team that needs a 1A/1B pairing. Great as a 3rd/injury option for the Leafs.

I was surprised it wasn't a 2 year deal, the Leafs need to expose a NHL goalie under contract to the Kraken.

A perfect choice for expansion draft protection. Good cheap signing.
