im pretty sure thats the plan cause realistically whose gonna take him. Heck if there is no AHL season the NHL may allow a taxi squad like with the playoffs. But they got till January to figure that out.

I believe they already have a start date.

But if they canceled it, I think things would be a mess.

You already seeing it hit the CHL. Games are being paused for some teams. Two teams have a combined 26 cases.

But thing is these guys have to play to improve. If they don't, things are a mess. I don't think that works for anyone. Players, Clubs, etc...

Might be seeing minor league games right after the pro games. Put the prospects etc... out on the ice after the pro teams.
All in one bubble. End up with some funky CHL/AHL combo teams playing each other.

Its a good move by the Leafs, but Im surprised Dell didnt get a better offer? either more money- or the opportunity to actually play games in the NHL. Hell he is way better than Domingue, better than Smith in Edmonton- and half the money!

potentially yeah. Rn the NHL is keeping all options open and may extend playoff rules for the cap but limit the Taxi squad to 10 players. We got till January so lets see.

One way deal so he’d have to clear waivers before going to marlies

You still have to clear waivers on a two-way deal once you reach a certain number of pro seasons. One/Two-way has nothing to do with waivers, just compensation based on where you play.

I see why Toronto would do it. The question is why would Dell do it.

Why on earth wouldn’t Edmonton or any other team in need of a backup do this? He’s better than Smith, and any other goalie on the market. Well hopefully for Dell’s sake he gets claimed off waivers at the start of the season.

We needed an AHL goalie as Kaskisuo left, Woll isnt ready to be an AHL starter and Scott was injured and like Woll isnt ready for a full time start.

Plus if Freddie or Campbell got hurt who would be the backup to either guy Woll, that would have been a yikes

Unfortunately for the Leafs, I doubt he clears waivers. If 1 goalie injury happens in the preseason for any team he’s gone.

The waiver rules might be different this year because they're aiming for a condensed 82 game season.

Every team is going to need more depth.

I guess so, but there’s going to be very major problems if the AHL can’t have a season.

Not if the NHLPA has anything to say about it.

They need to play a full season. 2 nhl records are depending on it, Marleau's chase to Howe's games played and Ovie's chase to Gretzky's goal total.

Doesn't mean that the PA will abandon collectively bargained player protections.

I do like the dollar value here but unless they move Campbell they don't really need him so I wonder what will happen

Good signing for the Leafs but I can't believe somebody else wasn't willing to give him this deal. I can think of 3 or 4 teams off the top of my head that could use him more than Toronto

Indeed. Ducks could use a back-up if Miller doesn't re-sign, or will they actually go with Stolarz behind Gibson?

Typical....the DemoRats have done nothing but reak havoc on the world for the past 4 years since they lost 2016. covid19 is a 'plan'demic, man made creation, purposely set free. 100% true.

PA won't abandon anything collectively bargained but the pandemic has forced businesses of all types to change and sports is not different from that.

The league and PA will figure out rules for a taxi sqaud just like they did for these playoffs except the the difference this time is more games will be played (assuming a season gets underway at some point) than the play-ins and playoffs combined from this past season.

I'm sure that's true. However, the passing of players between the roster and non-roster will still be subjected to waivers. Players want to stay in the NHL and play. If they're not being given a chance on the 23-man roster and are taken off the active roster via the "taxi squad" then they'll need to clear waivers so that they'll be given a chance to stay on the active roster of some NHL team.
