You say realistic offseason then make 3 cap dumps (that will be very hard to move). Keep in mind that all Lou has done is trade teows (who was not one of those aforementioned cap dump)

Yes a move that gives him assets to incentivize a team to take our bad contracts.

You think Lou didn’t try to make those trades before trading toews? He’s reportedly been trying to move boychuck for weeks. If that was all it took, I would be surprised to say the least. It takes a 1st minimum.

He did not have the second round picks to trade boychuk he got them from the toews trade. Boychuk s Aav is 6 million but its only 5 million in total over the next couple of years. Staal got a second for one year I don’t see why two seconds and a prospect that had 22 goals in Bridgeport last year wouldn’t do it.

Going by what the isles writer from the athletic said on his podcast, it sounds like trotz pushed to keep Leddy over toews, despite teams calling lou about Leddy.

It sucks that we traded toews but there was no way we’d get 2 seconds for leddy. These picks can help us get rid of boychuk which would’ve been really difficult to do before this trade. Plus when Leddys contract is up in two years Wilde and perhaps even vande sompel, bolduc, and Hutton would be ready to take his spot.

We still got fleeced and like I said it sounds like trotz was the reason why we traded toews. Trotz is so overrated, he likes his guys and his loyalty hurts his teams.

Lou/trotz are lucky that they do have guys like Vande sompel , Aho, and wilde because their last two drafts have sucked - the only good pick was holmstrom

I think Yzerman would hold out for a 1st from Islanders. Two late 2nd's just isn't very enticing for a team that's had a ton of 2nd and 3rd's over the last two drafts and already has three 2nd's next year, and the Isles don't have leverage for a stand off.

He’s not overrated he took a team that lost its star player that everyone thought would be tanking for the 1st pick with one of the worst defenses of the cap era and turned them into the top defensive team in the league. That’s unprecedented. He also got them past the first round the past two year which happened once in the past 25 years. The fortunes and the perceptions of this team league wide have changed because of Barry trots and Lou lamoriello. With all the garbage us islanders fans had to put up with for so long I’m incredibly grateful to have them in the organization. In my opinion this team plays well above their talent level. He’s literally the best coach this organization has had since Al Arbour. With the drafts it’s too early to tell what these guys will turn into. I like holmstrom and bolduc from 2019, I don’t know about this years class yet let’s wait and see. I like their 2018 draft especially ishakov.

You could be right that they’ll need to trade the 1st. I think 2 seconds and bellows is fair value and I would have to guess Lou is offering a similar deal to the few teams that have cap space hopefully one will take it but I agree there’s a good possibility he would have to include the 1st if there are no takers

There’s definitely a lot of positives to look at , even with the departure of toews - but it was still a brutal trade.

The only way the isles can get better is if dobson, Aho, and wahlstrom are all regulars next season. That would require Trotz to stop being loyal to old vets on their last legs. He’s a very good coach, the reason why I say he’s overrated is because his love for veteran grinders has cost this team at times. He doesn’t ice the best lineup with personnel he has available

Dobsons definitely playing next year and I’m sure aho will too with all the back to backs they’re likely to play next year. Greene won’t be able to play every game and having Greene and aho rotate will ease aho into the nhl without putting all that pressure on him to contribute right away. I think having Greene play with Dobson will be great for dobsons development

Wahlstroms development is crucial is this team is going to take the next step. He needs to start on the 3rd line next seaosn

I agree but it all depends how his game develops away from the puck. Trots doesn’t tolerate those who make constant mental errors.

Komarov and kuhnhackl constantly make mental errors - trotz just hates young players, wahlstroms play away from the puck was fine

Kuhnhackl never played during the playoffs and Leo is a penalty killer. Wahlstrom’s ceiling is higher than those two ever will be so the expectations are higher for him. Wahlstrom needs top line minutes so I think this run in Sweden is gonna be really good for him.

Staal got an early 2nd for one year. This is 3 of boychuck at higher salary. Will at least cost a 1st. AT LEAST

That’s certainly possible and if that’s the case then we have a 2nd in this draft otherwise we wouldn’t be picking until the 3rd round for the second year in a row
