Team: 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 14, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
JVR is still producing (41 pts in shortened season, hit a wall in playoffs) and is safe bet for 20-30 goals, 45-55pts, good skater, big body on PP and good fit for NASH who need a scorer and PHI retains 1mil, making a more palatable JVR salary. Philly is stacked at forward and JVR is behind Giroux and Lindblom at LW, with Farabee progressing.
No one wanted Johnson off waivers, but PHI ups the possible offer sheet of Cernak with 2nd rounder, a good RD prospect in Wylie, two midlevel prospects in mammoth LW Ratcliffe and goalie Sandstrom. Johnson brings some good offense and speed, while Cernak brings some size, hitting and crease clearing to PHI defense. Frees up TB almost 8mil in cap space, while bringing good depth to prospects
BUF needs a number 3 LD, with only Dahlin and McCabe at position and while a 3rd and 4th are high based on Ghost's injury year. Its a 3rd 2 years away and a 4th a year away. Ghost, now injury free after diabolical year has a career season average of 43 pts, is still youngish and is a nice bet to fill that role to aid the new offense in BUF. Ghost supplanted by provorov and sanheim on a team full of puck rushers, its not about Ghost not being a top 4 dman, and more about Philly being so deep and young on defense.
Overall PHI adds Johnson's speed, forward depth, although it may slow Farabee's progression, Cernak adds youth and size to PHI defense and allows a very good 5-7th defense of Gustafson, Braun and Hagg, (with York or Zamula coming up next year), and not overly reliant on return of Patrick with Laughton or Johnson able to play 3C.
Deeper offense and defense for PHI.

Cue the people coming in to say that JVR is worthless.....

Anyway, I like this but I’m not sure Patrick is going to really play consistently so *in the case that he ends up not being healthy enough to play again* :

I would swap him for Johnson at 3rd C and put Raffl at Wing.

Besides that, I’m all for going with the lines you set.

NSH had a player who was good for 20-25g, 45-50p per season at the same age. Pushed the pace, wasn't as big of a body, but they ultimately let him go. Craig Smith signed in BOS for $3.1M. If they weren't willing to resign Smith, I don't think they're going to give up 2 picks for someone who costs twice as much and has similar production.

I do believe JVR and NAshville aren't a match trade wise. Nashville has been looking to sign someone. The key teams I believe are a match are the Kings, Devils, Senators, and Canucks.

Devils is more tricky now that they made some other moves to get them to the cap floor, but they still need forwards.

Kings could bring him on but we'd have to take Jeff Carter most likely. Carter is a little cheaper of course and more importantly has one less year on his contract just in team for G/Coots FA year. With that said though no chance Seattle takes Carter. There is a chance although not as likely as others would have you believe that JVR is taken by. Seattle.

Senators could use someone who can score and bring somewhat of a leadership value. He seems to lead by example off the ice. Not positive how much of a leader on the ice he is, but still, he can teach these young players how to be professionals.

Finally, the most fun match is the Canucks. We'd 100% at least have to take 1 bad contract. My guess is Roussel who is on a 2 year 3 mil AAV deal. Then take Jordie Benn on a 1 year/ 2mil deal then maybe get Virtanen that would have to sign. Even then i'm not so sure. It's just whether or not the Canucks think JVR brings enough value or not if they wanted to do something like that.
