Wings Pass Hard. Byron is 31 and Veleno is 19 or 20. Why would Wings make this trade?

They are rebuilding and Veleno is a 1st round pick still maturing.

Wait so we take a cap dump and pay way too much. Yep I'm sure Yzerman will gift this.

Thank you for both your input.

I guess, I value Byron higher than you guys do. I would prefer Byron stay with the Habs, his speed and shot are great assets that I think many teams would appreciate. He's a great depth player and penalty killer. However our recent signings have made our cap a bit tight and he has lost his spot on the "3rd" line in my opinion.

I saw this as two combined trades:
- Byron for Erne, where Byron had more value and we should probably receive a pick as well to compensate.
- Veleno for a pick which probably should be a 2nd as he was picked almost at the end of the first and his progression has been a bit underwhelming thus far.

I thought this gave Detroit a bit more speed and scoring right now and gave Montreal some cap relief, size and a hometown boy.

Thanks,

G

Ya it just doesn't make sense for the red wings rebuilding and all. Also, with the plethora of cheap signings Yzerman just did, there is really no need for him especially since he's 31 and costs that much. If red wings take him, you would have to pay for that to happen.

Cap is GOLD right now in this flat cap era.

Bro, Veleno just played his FIRST pro season as a 19 year old. Little early to be judging development.

How is this even close? You want Detroit who is rebuilding to trade Veleno a 20yr old 1st round pick with his entire career in front of him for Byron a 31yr old who's career has already begun to wind down.

Try Bryon to the Sens for a 3rd round pick. That's probably what we can get for Byron at best in this trade market. Forget about getting a grade A prospect from another team. I like Byron a lot too but his contract complicates our cap this year and the next two! I wish Byron luck on his new team cause I believe he's the guy that will be traded

Thank you all for your comments.

I made a new trade with both teams that might be more interesting to Detroit fans.

Thanks,

G
