Description
I'm hoping Landy takes something of a discount for stability and continuity so he can stay with a contender for what may amount to the rest of his career (or most of it). It is just as likely Makar signs a bridge as it is he signs this kind of deal so I went with the long-term here. Saad may not want to take a paycut but maybe he likes it in Denver and it works for both sides. This is definitely the year when they have to start filtering in the young guys to take off the cap pressure so I can see them moving out one of Donskoi or Compher so I chose Donskoi here as he is a little older; I really don't know if Florida is the right trading partner but that's where I put him.

I feel the same way, Saad will need to take a little less to stay, and i personally don't think landy is worth more than that, and with the cap being frozen this year as well hopefully he plays toward the better of the team.
I think newhook will contend for a roster spot this year as well so he might slide in 3C. But we have plenty of money to sign everyone, the only thing i see being added is a role player for the 4th line since we've lost calvert now.

RE: Landy. Evolving Hockey has him pegged at 8x$9M and they always seem higher-end so knock off $1M. Then, take off another $1M for flat cap and "hometown discount" and I can see him coming in around $7M but I doubt it's much lower than that but I suppose it's possible. To me, $7-7.5 seems realistic and doable.

I'm not sure Newhook will be quite ready - he may need a year in the AHL to get experience playing against grown men but it's possible they see him as ready to make the jump. If not, he moves into the 2C spot after Kadri leaves.

They'll still have money to go look for 4th line help so, in this scenario, it all works.

My guess is Landy gets a 7th year at around that price. Anders Lee got 7x7 pre-COVID. Things haven't moved, so it's probably a pretty valid comp.

Maybe Gabe gets a bit more buy don't see it going too much higher under the circumstances.

I think that's a fairly accurate comp. He isn't as productive as Gabe but he plays on a defensive team. He is also two years older than Landy. I could see the Avs buying that 7th year for a lower AAV. There are plenty of fans who don't like the idea of taking him into his mid-30's but I don't think a 6-7 year deal would age too poorly so long as the money is right.

It's the nature of the beast. You can't just get a guy's best years and then cast him aside before they hit 30 (especially a guy the org drafted and made captain). There is a loyalty aspect that has to come into play with certain players, Gabe being one.

I think Toews, Grub, & Saad get more. Once you add the scratches it's tight, but still doable

We'll see. Wages are pretty depressed all over the league and these guys are coming up for contracts at the exact wrong time. It does still work at a slightly higher amount for each but it would be right up against the cap.
