I really just don't understand this deal at all. Boston has ZERO need for another goalie.

Depth move obviously but most likely linked to uncertainty about Rask helped this signing.

What is up with Boston now, Their forwards are injured, Krug just walked away, they have a lot of cap space, and the best they can do is sign Callum Booth, are they trying to get worse?

Depth move? The guy is barley an ECHL level goalie at this point. He's not sniffing the NHL, so Rask is irrelevant. They already have Vladar who was lights out in the AHL last year. Swayman was the best goalie in the NCAA and nearly won best player in the NCAA last year. Then they have Keyser who was hurt last year, but was one of the top OHL goalies before signing with Boston. Booth is a step above a shooter tutor.

They still have DeBrusk and Grz to sign. It shouldn't eat up a lot, but it'll be a decent junk of their space.

You're right Rask retiring wouldn't change anything in the depth chart, Halak will be a one man show and the backup goalie position will be abolished.
Ffs if Rask retires then everyone moves up a spot and it frees up a spot at the bottom of the food chain for your tutor to go. I know some GMs are dumber than others but there's a reason for him to go out of his way and sign a goaltenders. I'd guess the Bruins management knows more than us CapFriendly amateur GMs.

That and Atlanta won't even play this year in ECHL so the Bruins don't have their affiliate. Keyser will be loaned somewhere but didn't needed Booth. Or AHL contract at best.

Rask isn't retiring lol...but lets say he does and Boston signed no one else.

NHL duo - Halak/Vladar
AHL duo - Swayman/Keyser

So where does Booth go? Atlanta isn't playing this year so they can't send him to the ECHL (not like they'd want him anyways)...
