Moving forward after Allen extension

Description
Some of you may disagree with some of the values on contract extensions but I've clearly shown that MTL can extend Tatar, Danault and Gally. There is no way that MTL trades Gally unless he clearly states that he wants out. The fact that talks have broken down at the moment does not mean that they won't talk again. This is how negotiations work, people!!! Less than two weeks ago, Geoff Molson told reporters that he gave Bergevin carte blanche to resign Gallagher to a long term deal. Bergevin also said the Gally would be the highest paid forward on the team. I think the contract below checks all the boxes in that regard. I would even be ok with a 7th year if that's what it took to get the deal done.

Furthermore, I've seen a lot of posts on this site suggesting Edmundson or Chiarot will be picked by Seattle. I think the signings of Toffoli and Anderson long term suggest that maybe Drouin is expendable. I firmly believe that the 2020-21 season will be the deciding factor on Drouin's future with the Habs. Clearly, he has struggled to meet expectations and is not delivering the offence most MTL fans would've expected. MTL lost that trade for sure. And unfortunately, I don't think Drouin has any trade value. I mean, certainly not a good prospect or high draft pick kinda return. I think the best we could get would be a third rd pick and a B prospect. Getting Seattle to take him while offering Mete as a expansion draft consideration would allow the Habs to keep their D intact and afford them the opportunity to extend Tatar, Danault and Gally.

Just my opinion on the Habs. At the end of the day, none of us on here are inside the respective teams war room and have no idea about internal budgets and what not. Clearly, quite a few of you on here no nothing about hockey or business. And, I'm not suggesting that I know more than anybody else, just my opinion. But, you can check my previous ACGM's and you'll find that I had predicted (or at least shown) the additions of Allen, Edmundson, Toffoli and Anderson. Just saying.....

There's no way Drouin is sent to Seattle in order to protect Chiarot or Edmundson. There's also no way we trade him and extend Tatar

By trading Drouin, in our top 6 we are left with 4 goal scoring wingers, and no playmakers.

At the end of the day this season will have a huge impact on who is protected and who isn't. Toffoli and Anderson play RW and heavy go-to-the-net games and Drouin is LW playmaker, so I don't see how Drouin can be replaced by those two. But ok let's see.
The most glaring contract from above is the KK contract. He'll be bridged for sure, but no way he'll take less than 3.5M. He's top 2/3 center (let's see how this season goes, and Mtl obviously see him as a top 2. He plays PP, will have 3 pro seasons under him. Contract above is too little. I would say 3yrs x $4M.

definitely no way we extend tatar - but I'm not sure Drouin will be protected.

Yeahhh, this is actually one of the more frightening posts i've seen... So a 25yr old Drouin has no trade value atm so instead of putting him in a position to succeed and maximize his abilities and possible return in an eventual trade, let's pair him with another young and promising player and lose them both for the fear of having one of either Chiarot or Edmundson taken by Seattle ? Ooof i just don't know. He also plays LW which is a position of need for us rn and imo Tatar is much more expendable. He's nearly 5 years older and coming off of back to back career years so will fetch an ok return in a trade. Anywho this is all speculation from both our ends but I just hope over the next few years Bergevin looks at this team more from a business perspective, as it might be time to move on from Gally if he wants more than 6mil per for any longer than 5 years.

just to pile on to all the "drouin go bye-bye = bad"

there's not really a big glut of natural Left Wingers on the team, or in the system.

and he's really clicked with Suzuki, so I don't see him as expendable as a guy like Edmundson or Chiarot.

I see the likely scenario being Montreal gives a prospect, and Kulak to Seattle to ensure they take Byron.
(if they follow the Vegas model) they'll flip one or both for additional picks.

I would disagree that with your comment about putting Drouin in a position to succeed and maximizes his abilities. In his first year in MTL, did he not play in the top 6? Did he not have time on the first PP unit? He also finished that season with the second worst +/- on the team (only behind Galchenyuk). Two players that have no idea what their own end looks like and what they need to do when they're there. In his second year, he played most of the season with Domi (who had a career year with 72 pts), Drouin only managed 53 pts. He also had time on the PP as well, and at the point no less! Oh, but I know why he didn't get close to Domi's point total, ah I remember, yeah.. something about a 22ish games goalless drought where he only had 7 pts (four of which came in a blowout win against Detroit). He's a streaky player and will continue to be that way because there is no effort in his game. I would rather have Tatar who actually works on the ice then a forward that has talent who refuses to put the effort in, just because he's 5 yrs younger.

As for Mete, explain to me why Bergevin would only offer him a one year contract at a minuscule $735K cap hit? Would it be that he thinks Romanov will surpass him by the end of this upcoming season? One thing MTL has not had in a very long time on the left side D is size. Both Chiarot and Edmundson provide that along with good skating ability and excellent zone exits. Not staying that they're speedsters like Mete but they can certainly get around the ice. And frankly, I'd rather have Kulak has my third pairing D then Mete tbh! Romanov will be a top 4 defenseman, Mete will not. Not saying that Mete won't have a long career but if I'm going to have a small d-man in my lineup, it's Romanov for me, not Mete.

He was asked to play C, clearly a position he wasn't and isn't comfortable with. Now that he is slotted properly as a top 6 LW, the production was beginning to actualize.

Mete was never meant to be a top-4 D, he only got slotted there because yes like you said, we literally had nobody else... Bergevin gave him a minuscule 735k because thats what he is worth. Mete will be a good to great bottom 6 D-man and will not cost an arm and a leg to keep. Easily move Kulak to Seattle and sign Mete to his 1.85mil deal instead. Easy as that.
