That's a lot of money for that term that walks him to UFA... they should have locked him up for 3 years or paid him less.

I'd have preferred 3 years, but I love this deal. Great value for a really solid young 4th liner. He's a big, mobile power forward who brings a little bit of everything to the 4th line, what's not to love? I'd like to see him get more of a role on the PK this year, which would only make him an even more versatile player.

I don't think it matters too much. Certainly not ideal, but I think he'll be a Sen past this two year deal regardless. The organization likes him, the young group of forwards all love him, and by all accounts he loves being a Senator. He's got a very Chris Neil/ Zack Smith feel to him, where I think he's going to be that next long term fixture on Ottawa's 4th line.

I like the player and the deal isn't horrible but I definitely think they could have done better here. Same with the Joshua Brown deal...

Giving up a pick for Gudbranson on the other hand was horrendous. I think they picked him up because they want to be more big and physical...

4th line player... and you sign him to this? lots of other people/players on the UFA market still that deserve a contract.

Bottom6 forward that can take faceoffs and play centre at times. Plays with pace, plays hard and hits, isn't dirty at all. Good teammate, good secondary leader. It took awhile for him to become a regular, but he belongs, and could play on any teams bottom6.
