That Stamkos news is old I would have to believe. Vegas decided to make their big splash on Pietro, and they've already upset the locker room. Nothing would say team unity more than kicking out another 2 to make Stamkos fit.

Kings have zero reason to do this, they are currently rebuilding and have no need for cap space. Additionally, it would be cheaper and easier on their cap long term to buy him out than do this.

The stamkos vegas rumor is old news, they can in no way make the cap work adding stamkos. The next issue the retaining your expecting on players is crazy. You are never getting a team to retain 35 mil.

This just doesn't work at all with Vegas' cap situation. Not to mention I have a hard time seeing anyone willing to take on Stamkos' deal right now with the injury troubles he's been plagued with. I think he's a lifelong long Lightning.

Just to be clear the Kings will never do this. But if they did have to lose Doughty, retaining $5M for 7 years isn't how they would do it.

I'm not saying the that the Kings wouldn't hate having Doughty on the books for 14 seasons, but taking the brunt of the $6-7M over the first three seasons while the Kings are still in a rebuild and having that drop to $3M during their compete window (and then continuing to drop) is better than paying $5M for 7 years during their compete window.

Don't have to tell me they are still paying Mike Richards but Lombardi did that to create room to keep competitive. If you are a GM you make the most cap space during your compete window even if it handcuffs the team to a lower cap hit longer (under the guise that the cap continues to rise... well except now haha.) If I were Blake and Doughty had to go (he doesn't) and we didn't have space (we do) for him retaining would not be the prefered method during this phase of the rebuild.

Honestly, it's a moot point (as noted above) because the Kings have the cap space to keep Doughty for the next 3 years and likely beyond as Brown and Carters contracts fall off, making a buy out easier each year after that if they needed. Truly Doughty is not as washed up as people claim, during the last stretch of games he was starting to return to form.

That Edmonton deal is completely unrealistic. Even if Holland wanted to move Bouchard for that kind of return, the Oilers do not have enough cap space to absorb additional contracts without sending comparable AAV back.
