Boeser and Gallagher

Created by: xNogaitx
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 14, 2020
Published: Oct. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know I will get scorched for it on both sides. But hear my logic:

1) Boeser has been rumored to be on the way out all summer long.
2) Gallagher has become somewhat expandable with Toffoli & Anderson additions.
3) This is a pandemic world were all $ on the cap space count like crazy.

This is an "all in" move for Montreal. Massive overpay

(Gallager + Lehkonen = same AAV as Boeser - ish)
Ylonen a former early 2nd rounder, speedy RW trending well
1st round pick (top 10 protected) obligatory to bridge some of the value gap.

Trade is fair value IMO, probably even an overpay if you guarantee a gallagher resign. Just can't see why VAN would trade Boeser.

There's nothing from Montreal that interests me enough to trade Boeser. We need a young stud RHD back and there isn't one here.

Yeah, Gally is going to take minimum 6.5 x 7. Probably around that exact contract to be honest.

That's what I went for actually. There is no reason in hell Vancouver should be moving Boeser in my opinion, but apparently management is trying to sooo!

So with that in mind, Montreal here gets a guy that will be their 1RW for years to come. At the expense of a low end 1RW (Gallagher), a 3rd liner that drives the play (supposedly enquired often by other teams around the league) in Lehkonen, a recent early 2nd rounder RW with NHL speed that performed well internationally against his peers in Ylonen.

Ylonen has been overshadowed by Romanov's progression but remains a legit prospect nevertheless.

And then the part that can be negotiated I guess is the 1st round pick. If it's really an overkill maybe a 2nd would suffice? Or 2 x 2nds?

See this is where I hesitated between including Harris (our highest D prospect after Romanov and Guhle) instead of Ylonen. Not sure if that would skew the deal to your liking? Next year's draft is said to be defense heavy so that 1st round pick should help

I think a Boeser deal would have to be a 1 for 1 with a stud defensemean like Pulock or a package for a very good one like Severson or Carlo. Prospects aren't that interesting unless their Byram or something.

Norlinder by far the best prospect in the system right now after Romanov on D. Harris is probably 4th or 5th on the Dman prospect depth chart....
