The only way I would entertain Thornton

Description
The only way I would entertain the leafs signing Thornton is for league minimum, and him and Spezza alternate games in the compressed schedule. Making sure both guys are always fresh if one has a busy night in his own zone, switch it next game or if he has a really good game give him another and then rotate but in no way shape or form would it be smart to have both of them in the bottom six at the same time. We cannot afford to have two guys who have lost their speed on the same line together after an icing.... You get the idea. And I just don't believe either one of them could sustain a third line role.

Not trading to Dermott to Boston without Carlo coming back.

Probably not what? The Kings forwards lines are already set. Kerfoot would be a lateral change at best. Roy to Holl is a downgrade. So why would the Kings trade a player they like and need for a downgrade, a forward they don't need, and a downgraded draft pick?

Holl is a downgrade from Roy from every foreseeable metric, and there are several free agents who are better than Kerfoot who have signed for half the rate. Roy was one of the Kings best defensemen last season and signed to an excellent contract.

How do you figure this helps the Kings?

I think somehow you just made this team softer, and arguably, worse.

There actually isn't a player on your roster I could see Toronto conceivably (i.e., rationally) trading us in return for Roy. The closest I can come is Nicholas Robertson, and I don't think you're doing that.
