For anyone saying it’s an overpayment he is a ~30 goals, 60-70 point guy who is the heart and soul of the team and it’s hardest worker

Over freaking paid.

If it was your boy Dubas, it would be 8 years 11 mill.

I don't think MB was involved in any troll job here. I think this was 100% Gally's agent leaking that talks between the two broken off in order to insert added pressure on MB's camp to budge on a long term deal. I think it worked. As for the contract, this is exactly what I expected. Actually I expected MAX term but..... you know....Covid.

I like it.

Thank god MB for doing this now so we don’t have to deal with anymore of this trading for Gallagher crap.

As for the deal, will he be overpaid for his production at the end of the deal? Most likely, yes.
Is it worth it? 100% yes every single time. Gallagher means so much more to this team than his goal or point production. I can’t wait for 10-15 years from now when we see #11 hanging from the rafters. A true heart and soul guy, and the perfect example of a Montreal Canadien.

I don't think its an overpay in the short term, but as he gets into his 30's it could easily become a liability.

I agree. I think the money was around the same for both parties but I bet his agent wanted 7 years and MB wanted 5. Settled on 6

If it were Dubas he would let him go for being to tough.

He’s been really close and his production will always be around 30 goals 50+ points and his hard work and leadership are great too

By year 6 he'll be 34 and in the past people who are very tough like Gallagher fall off a cliff once they hit a certain age plus he has a modified no trade clause so it will be hard to move him in a few years when this contract is weighing them down and stopping them from improving their team in other ways. I know people get attached to players they like but hockey is a business and I can see this contract preventing Montreal from signing a better free agent in the future.

Don't get me wrong. He is a great player. Was just pointing out the obvious boost.
Good contract for the next 3-4 years imo

Caufield & Ylönen. Although Armia’s probably gone by then, and hopefully Toffoli can play LW.

We want a bunch of people who look flashy in the regular season but get bullied and choke in the playoffs - Kyle Dubas

This is also why Calgary keeps losing because their under sized and not tough enough you need toughness to win.

Edit: It is also why they traded for Lucic and now have signed Chris Tanev.

doubt ylonen makes the team, especially to be stapled to the 4th line

I feel like he’s definitely the type of player that would be effective & not wasted on the 4th line. Although it obviously depends how training camp goes.

So comes with a modified NTC as well (not that it will be needed at all):
