Imagine thinking regular season points mean anything at all.

Sorry they don't mean anything at all? Sure they are not the whole story but doesn't mean anything at all?

They're both there to score goals. Gallagher has been a top 10 RW goal scorer with every year being significantly above anderson while being one of the top two way and defensive wingers in the entire league. Anderson hits more and is more physical but is almost certainly not as good defensively simply because Gallagher is great

I just mean they aren't here to JUST score goals. You explained it perfectly though so I don't have to explain myself. Thanks

Might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I honestly wouldn't care how many points you score if we make the playoffs, that's when it matters. Regular season success means nothing IMO

Was expecting closer to $7M but that'll do. Great player no doubt. Pretty fair contract I'd say.

Thank god MB for doing this now so we don’t have to deal with anymore of this trading for Gallagher crap.

As for the deal, will he be overpaid for his production at the end of the deal? Most likely, yes.
Is it worth it? 100% yes every single time. Gallagher means so much more to this team than his goal or point production. I can’t wait for 10-15 years from now when we see #11 hanging from the rafters. A true heart and soul guy, and the perfect example of a Montreal Canadien.

A Koivu/Gallagher combo?

Slight overpay, but considering how good his last contract was its fine.

OVERPAY??? thats a joke right? Gally is a beast and will be for a long time. I think he will he worth every penny for the entirety of his contract.

Puts up some of the best advanced numbers in the league. He's definitely top 10.

Everyone that plays for Julien has good advanced numbers. Most of the top advanced guys are Habs. His system heavily juices advanced stats. Gallagher has never put up more than 54 points in a season. He's not top 10.

But see my point. Gallagher is leagues better and a Ufa compared to Anderson. I don't understand how Gallagher accepted this when Anderson just got 5.5*7.

If points were the only thing that mattered

If points were the only thing that mattered he shouldn’t get a hair over 5.5M. Even for what he brings, at 30, a 6 year contract at 6.5M is steep

No 65 point winger is getting less than 6.5 mil

“At best” he’s a 50 point guy imo. You don’t give that kind of money and term to a guy like him, even for what he brings in the locker room and off the ice. I might be wrong though, only time will tell.

54 point career high = Gallagher (8 seasons)
53 point career high = Drouin (6 seasons)
47 point career high = Anderson (6 seasons)

18 million dollars

My point exactly. And o said “at best”. Probably a 55 point guy realistically

So Gallagher goes from being one of the most underpaid wingers in the league to ... a very reasonable salary and term. That's a good deal for Montreal. Gallagher plays a style that has him taking abuse, so there is always a bit of risk, but if you are going to take that risk, Gallagher is the type of player you take it on. He is one of the best even strength wingers in the NHL, full stop. He loses some value for not being a PP driver, but there are a lot of wingers in the league who aren't really any better, but get the advantage of playing on a stacked PP.

If Gallagher stays healthy as the younger players develop, it would not shock me if he has his best statistical seasons ahead of him. Not because he will get better, but if he gets complimented with some higher skilled players, he can likely pick up some additional points (especially on the PP), that he isn't getting right now. He's like Zach Hyman, except he's also capable of creating a lot of chances for himself out of nothing.

He's put up over 50 points for the past 3 years and was on pace to crush that this season. He's more than a 50 point guy.

Serious question, do Habs fans always go trash on every new Leafs signing? Just wondering.

3/5 and yes you are correct, That doesn't mean the only thing we care about is regular season points. Gallagher's type of play is needed in the playoffs, just look at this year,

He had 4 points in 9 games this year ....

Gallagher has 0.50 points per game in career playoff games.
Anderson has 0.30 points per game in career playoff games.
Toffoli has like 0.40 points per game in career playoff games.

WTF are you saying?

Nope. Leafs are just jealous that Montreal is building a team the right way, It's understandable.

Why do you only look at points? I know you're a Leafs fan and that's all you know, but Points don't get you out of the first round. There's a reason the Laughs get eliminated in them every year.

Hes only broken the 50 pt. plateau twice- and wasnt on pace to break it this year- even if the team had played 82 games...he missed some.
He's a leader on the team- and thats worth something- but the Habs are spending like drunken sailors. At 6.5mil...i think they will regret the last two years of the deal- at the minimum.
