I don't think Kovalchuk will sign for league minimum. He was willing to last year because he already got his $4.5M bonus paid by LA in December. This year, his only pay is whatever he negotiates. I think he goes back to the KHL before he accepts less than $2M.

Maybe he signs on the condition he's traded at the deadline to his pick of a contender, along with some performance bonuses.

As a rental though? That's giving up a lot for a guy who's either going to leave for UFA or get drafted by Seattle
