Exactly! This is what everyone forgets. Adding another RHD and keeping them beyond two years pretty much means Rielly is gone.

The only guy I'd be willing to look at adding is David Savard, since he's a pending UFA (If Columbus is wanting to move him).

Or you trade him for a bunch of assets and let Sandin develop into that role?

Why? Why would you not try to keep MORGAN RIELLY, who is a top-5 offensive defenceman in the NHL. He's young and will be effective for another 7-10 years. He's a big part of our core. Why trade him? How many teams trade away their core pieces while they are competing? They don't and neither will Dubas. You don't win stanley cups by trading away good players for "assets." If you are being forced to choose between Eric Cernak and Morgan Rielly, shouldn't that be an easy choice?

Assets can very often equal getting almost nothing in return. Lots of times stars are traded for prospects and picks that end up never being any good.

Over last 3 season Mo is 8th in PPG so not quite top 5. But as I said it depends on Sandin's development. Not much point to argue 2-3 years down the road.
