No thanks , we habs, have quantity already. I much prefer keeping the Best player in that Deal (Tatar)

that and nothing of value is coming back, Montreal loses a top 6 forward, and gets a bunch of bottom 6 forwards with term?
Thanks. Responding to a Habs thread yesterday that requested offers on the Habs' whole top line, as though a fan was trying to figure out whether it made sense to make some rebuild-type moves, presumably to open up top six roles for Caufield, et. al. No offense intended.
In the second half of last year, Panik got 20 even strength points in 36 games, playing fourth line. I think he might still have 2nd line skill. Just maybe. He's not quite Tatar, but he and Hagelin together take up as much cap space as Tatar would take up next year if MTL intended to keep him, rather than to focus on re-signing Danault and Gallagher. So.... it seemed like a fit, to me.

We won't trade Tatar and take on cap hit for multiple years. We're super tight cap-wise from now on.
Thanks.
Makes sense. I like Tatar, but I don't see another way to make that work, with WSH. Their only UFA-1 contracts are Lundqvist, TVR, and Ovechkin. The first two aren't enough cap to balance a rental and just signed. And I think that last guy probably isn't getting traded.

Seems like too much to give up, even though Tatar was on a tear last year. Losing PK, projected middle-six forward, and draft picks during possible rebuild years...I don't know, definitely a win-now play but I think that leans too far over the line of mortgaging the future.
Yeah, Hagelin, Panik, and Jensen helped the Caps' penalty kill improve from bottom ten to top ten. They're really good at that. But Tatar adds a tiny bit more secondary scoring than Panik? I don't know. I agree it's a high bid. But clearly Habs fans don't. Which is funny because Tatar was a literal cap dump in a trade of Suzuki for Galchenyuk. But what can you do?
