Look at Panik's game log last year, though. He started out injured but playing good defense, and then finished with 20 even strength points in the last 36 games. Cap dump? Nah. Baertschi, though? Maybe, just maybe.

He's on a multi yr deal. We are in cap hell. And it is gonna get worse. Just doesn't make sense to give up an nhl ready dman on an entry level deal and a pick. I wouldn't think you'll get any return for him. Def Van is a bad option unless we can move cap out which is looking very difficult to do.

Did you miss Baertschi, though?

Not looking for a return, really. I get that opening up any cap space this summer is worth the value of an average player, and Panik is barely, just barely above average.

Rafferty is 25 years old with two games played and no points. Keep him. Pay him $900k. Enjoy that.

edit: I'm not asking if the value works. I know the on-ice value is a win for Vancouver but that the contract has term.

I'm asking whether burying a retained contract works to minimize its cap hit as well as it appears to work on this web site, or whether the site exaggerates the savings from burying him, because maybe the buried part gets divided between both teams, proportionally?

I saw Baertchi but you also put in us retaining on him. We can put him in the minor for roughly that cap savings.
Rafferty has one yr of pro hockey under his belt and he dominated. Scouts are saying he's NHL ready. We definitely want to see him before giving him away for nothing. And a pick also is too much. No team needs 2.75 mil in their bottom 6, let alone the Canucks who already have 4-5 players like that.

Im not sure the retained bury situation but again Panik is not what the Canucks need at all, the contract is too long and for too much.
