Dubas clearly isn't the idiot in this scenario. You overpaid for both Dermott and Mikheyev while also downgrading at the 3rd line center. Would much rather see Justin Holl moved for the extra cap space while only getting rid of Kerfoot if there could be a deal involving a defenseman back.

that's a good deal for mikheyev but an overpayment for Dermott

I don't mind the deal for Mikheyev, but from all the reports I've read the Leafs camp offered 1 million and the Mikheyev side asked for 1.8 million. This would mean that in an arbitration case, the result would most likely be closer to the Leafs offer than the Mikheyev camp ask.

We would accept the Buffalo 3rd in a heartbeat as long as we could walk away from the Strome award.

Depends what he gets in arb...anything above $4.538 and the Rangers could walk away from. If he gets over that number, I think the Rangers would accept a hypo offer of Kerfoot for a 3rd since it would save them money.

I think Engvall may also find himself out the door. His cap hit plus the remaining cap space basically makes room for an extra two league minimum players for a full 23 man roster.

We are tight against the cap because of rookie bonuses.

Correct but to start the season NHL assumes worse case scenario.

fair enough, worst case scenario you take the risk and roll overages into next season where we still have tons of cap space

As of right now, our current available cap space is $14,154,367 including the current bonus overage so we still have some work to do.

Yeah, that's not true at all. People have really weird ideas how good the 4th best defender on 95% of good teams is
