Something similar to this trade always gets close to happening every trade deadline for the past three years

Lou is the most overrated GM in the game. Only he would think this makes any sense.

I’m not gonna act like I want parise but at this value? The isles give up 4.25 mil (assuming he would’ve been buried) in dead cap for 6 mil in a still solid parise for another year or two is definitely not a bad trade in the immediate term and helps the team offensively

It won’t be this but it will be something like this when Parise finally gets traded

If the trade were to happen I still don’t think it’s economically possible for the isles barring the wild retaining 30%+ since they have more RFAs to pay next year with no money coming off the books

In reality, Lou is the only GM who would even consider this. I bet he'll say Parise is still great, if we get him we can move Barzal

This would without a doubt blowup immediately. Parise has 5 more years of term and is declining.

He doesn’t make the final call on barzal, I know that’s a big blow to your expectations.

Who makes the decisions there? If not the GM?

The owners - the same ones who took over Tavares negotiations.

Looking back it at , the biggest problem was that they catered to Tavares and honored his ask to not trade him before the deadline - they wanted to do everything to retain him. It’s a good thing that Tavares is not an islander because he’s slowing down already and that contract...

Tavares was a pending UFA. Barzal is an RFA with no rights - they would never let the franchise player go when they invested a ton of their own money into a new arena that opens next year. A bunch of fans would cancel their season tickets.

omg is this trade lopsided. I mean I get it - it's super funny to look at it's so bad, but still at least make it reasonable

JT was what 2 points off of being a point a game and was a terrific but unlucky in the playoffs. Of course you say hes declining. Now if he was an Islander still? Absolutely he would be the best.

He should be over PPG considering who he plays with and the system. I wouldn’t make excuses for his playoff permormance - he was paid to get the leafs over the hump . He’s still a good player, not worth 11 mill though.

You're so bitter and so bias against him and the leafs it really is ridiculous. But this is capfriendly. The site where JT only gets points because he plays with Marner who only gets points because of JT and Nylander only gets points because he plays with Matthew's who only gets points because he plays with Marner who only gets points because of the system. It's just a vicious circle of bull**** nonsense.

Lol yup the "reality" is all Leaf players score only because they all play with Matthews who is just a 2C on most teams.

Nope Matthews is a superstar. Tavares is slowing down.
