Description
The big move here is for Jaden Schwartz. He's definitely worth more but St.louis is in a tough spot. They are up against the cap and still need to sign Vince Dunn who will probably get north of 2 mill. And they need a back up goalie after trading Allen. This trade gives them the back up and the space to sign dunn while the leafs give up a top prospect and a pick for a top line winger with one year left on his contract.

This is terrible for the Leafs. Gut their backup strength, remove a highly touted RHD prospect for a depth forward we don't need.

this also probably wouldnt interest the blues, dunn is expendable if anything and trading schwartz for a backup goalie leaves a huge hole on a team gunning for the cup

Just off the top, I have no idea why you think the Blues are still in some major crunch. As for the trade, even if the Blues were apt to trade Schwartz (they are not), Campbell would certainly be of no value to the Blues. Lilly is a nice enough player to have around for the future, but he ain't near being worth Schwartz. Plus, they're in win now mode, so nothing about this works. Sorry.

We just traded the 60th overall pick to take a flyer on Lias Andersson. I don't think we'd trade what is likely to be a top-40 pick for Kerfoot and Holl, both of whom we'd probably have to leave exposed in the expansion draft.

The Blues are in a cap crunch but not a particularly imminent one. Once Dunn is signed, we will be over the cap but assuming the season starts in January, we will be starting with nearly 13 million on LTIR and it is likely to remain that way through February. Steen could potentially stay there. So there's no rush to make a move yet with Schwartz or anyone else. We can wait until we find a better return if we decide to trade him than what we're getting here.
