Not a bad idea at all. Don’t know if Florida does it, but this definitely makes a lot of sense.

The problem is that only 3 D will be protected in expansion draft next summer (Trouba, Lindgren, ADA). So Weegar would likely be lost to expansion. This is why I don't see a forward for D trade this year, unless we trade Tony D (which would be a mistake)

In this scenario if we acquire Weegar, I would look into trading ADA. Obviously he’s a great player, but I’m of the opinion that they should trade him now at his highest value. I fear that they sign him to a lengthy contract, he regresses, and were stuck with him blocking an A+ Prospect like Lundkvist. Weegar is also a defenseman the Rangers need more of and really lack: good possession stats, excellent defensively and positionally AND he plays both sides...
