I like Pettersson. But with P.O-Joseph, in all reports, NHL ready. And now that we traded for Matheson(who I hope has a good season and gets drafted in the expansion draft), He is expendable. Even though he’s affordedable, a top 4 d-man, and only 24 years old. If we could bring Trocheck back to Pittsburgh(where he was born), and get B.Pesce for Letang, Petersson and Z.A.R, I think most Pens fans would say yes.

POJ isn't NHL ready, and I doubt he ever plays a game for the penguins. He'll be traded out.

You know he played in the AHL last year and the coach said he could’ve played in the NHL last year. Played him
In every situation;25 minutes a game, played PP and PK. The Pens brought him up for the play-offs taxi squad and said if they have gotten past the 1st round he would have played.

You say he’s not ready?? Why is every coach in the organization and every article you read say he is?

Not sure about that. Not now. 3 years ago, of course, but he's 34.

Pesce is the most overrated player on this site. Hes a good player sure but hes a secondary player. He is best when he has a top player to play with. Hes had the luxury of playing with better defenceman in a system that benefits his playing style. On his own? Hes a 2nd pair defenceman. Letang is still a top pair guy, not a terrific one but a good one still.

Letang is 34 years old and scored 15 goals and had 29 assists and 44points in 61 games last year. And 25 minutes of ice time a game. When will Pesce ever do that? That’s Letang, last year, at 33.

U want to know what 32 years old was? 16 goals, 40 assists 56 points in 65 games, 25:58 ice time, plus/minus +13..good luck Pesce..never in his life. Not when he was 18 in High School.

I am 100% on your side. Pesce is Mike Komisarek, great in his current situation but put him in a high event system and he'll be a tire fire because he doesn't have the skill to make up for a system that leaves him alone at times. I am so sick of seeing Pesce for a star player trade on this site.

No Letang >> Pesce
Petterson > Trochek
ZAR = 3rd but why should the pens trade him?

How is Letang not elite still. The guy still scored 44 points last year for a defenseman while playing half the season with Jack Johnson as his d pair, plays 25+ minutes a night, plays in all situations. Imagine what he would have done without an absolute anchor holding him down. The guy was the healthiest core player we had last year too btw. Obviously you don’t know who V. Trochek or Pesce are. Or maybe you’re not a pens fan and don’t know who Letang and Petterson are 🤷‍♂️. Trochek hasn’t topped 38 points and 11 goals the last two years. The D you’re trading had more points and more goals playing with an anchor in 1 less game last year. Then you want to add Petterson who had a comparable year stats wise to Pesce except had a ton more hits. And add ZAR on top of that. Yikes

Cost and age considered, I'd take Pesce over Letang any day of the week. Letang might be slightly "better" now, but in a trade that's not all you look for. Letang is 34. Trochek, in his last full season (17-18) , scored 75 points. Petterson's top season was 25 points (yes, I realize he is a defenceman), Pesce is considered to be one of the best defencive defenceman in the game. Zac Aston Reese is worth less than a second. What more do you want.

Correction. Sell low.

He's 34 and only going to get worse. This is a good trade.

I know Pesce is overrated, I see all the same Nylander-for-Pesce trades you do. But Letan is over the hill now. He's not what he used to be. If the penguins trade Patrick Marleau, are the going to get Nate Mackinnon in return? No. That's because Marleau is 41. Letang is not that old yet, but his value is down from what it used to be.

I say Letang is still better right now for sure.
this trade isn't good for PIT. the D has a ton of ?s with matheson, Joseph, and can marino step in and be a #1?

of. course Letang doesn't have the value he used too but I really don't think Letang will be traded at all. every time some crazy trade rumour started, cooler heads prevailed. PIT will go with 87/71/58 till they all retire as penguins.

Yes when you trade a 2nd pair RHD, a 3rd line center, and a 2nd round pick for an elite top pair RHD, a 2nd pair LHD, and a very good defensive bottom 6 forward you won the trade.

Lol, quite aware of Letang and Pettersson. You don’t even spell Pettersson name right bud. V.Trocheck had injuries in 2018-19. He only played 55 games. Look to 2017-2018 and past when he played full seasons. 31 goals, 75 points in 81 games.

while trocheck would be an amazing option for #3C, I don't see Carolina moving him rn.
Pettersson had a down year for sure but still has alot of potential to be a legit, effective top-4 D. the pens think really highly of him. (see his extension @ over $4M)

I agree he won't be traded. The pens value him higher than other teams I would think.

true.
all teams overvalue players that wear 3 rings. (technically he only deserves 2 bc he was gone for 2017)

That is a ridiculous comparison. Letang is still good, not elite but still good and even how, what he can do is just more than what Pesce will ever be able to do.

I used a comparison that is overkill so I could prove my point. And whoops, Marleau plays for the sharks again now anyways. And I did say it, Letang is still slightly better than Pesce. He scored about twice as many points. I'm just going to stop now. You don't seem to understand. I agree Letang is better than Pesce. But in a trade, there are other factors to consider.

Letang is a lot better. If a gm is trading for Letang, they are looking to win now and not a few years down the road. If the pens are trading Letang, it’s to blow it up and rebuild. Cool story with Trochek, however he played just as much of a season as everyone else last year and still scored less than Letang (a defenseman), while playing 1 more game than tanger. Not to mention Trochek had 58% offensive zone starts (by far the most in his career) and still only managed 38 points. Had they played an 82 game season, he scores maybe 45 points at the rate he was at. I don’t care what he did 3 years ago. If we aren’t going to base Letangs value from his last full season, then why should we do it for Trochek?
Petterson is a solid two way defenseman. His stats are comparable to Pesce.
What more do I want? To not lose trades in a major way lol

The thing to consider is who gets the best player. It's the canes in this scenario. If I am the GM of Pittsburgh I wouldn't downgrade my defense by moving Letang for an inferior player

That's capfriendly for you. It's not a fair trade unless Carolina wins in a landslide.
