Final 2020-21 roster

Created by: skrymir
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 16, 2020
Published: Oct. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stützle makes the team, Brown and Tierney end up with 1 year contracts from arbitration and are likely flipped out at the deadline if extensions aren't signed. This is the last year for White to show he's a top 6 forward and they will give him every opportunity to do so. If he doesn't I could see him bought out next off-season (buy out would only be 1/3 because of his age and annual cap impact would be $850k for 8 years). His current salary will screw up future contract negotiations if he's not producing.

why would we buy out colin white??? Maybe if hes literal garbage for the next 2 years but i dont see that happening. That sens team last year was terrible, its way better going forwards, i suspect he'll re-emerge as at least a solid middle 6 contributor. either way we have no cap obligations for like 3 years, he probably wouldnt be bought out this year if they were going to

Inwant White to succeed, and so do the Sens, but if he has another lack luster season like last year, it makes getting extensions for players like Batherson and Norris harder. If they're outplaying him their agents are going to be asking for north of what he's making. If he's not playing like a top 6 forward he'll upset the salary structure of the team.

Going forward the core of this team will be Tkachuk, Chabot, Stützle, Sanderson, Murray, and likely 2 other forwards. The Sens will want to set up a salary structure where they are the top paid guys and the rest are below that. If White isn't one of the other two forwards (ie out plays one of Norris or Batherson) they may want to walk away from the contract.

Just expose him to Seattle rather than buy him out. Seattle would be really smart to give him a shot and bet on a bounce back. Also at this salary being the 7th best forward at that price who can play wing and centre isn't bad at all
Borocop liked this.

batheson and norris arent going to break the bank, theyre probably all getting bridges apart from brady and timmy in 3 years if hes nasty. Theres like no contract commitments for a bit, he definitely still has a role

With 6 one-way contracts + Zub (ELC) on defence, I don't think there is a spot for Brannstrom on opening night unless he really stands out at camp. Given their recent acquisitions on the back-end, I think it's their plan to start him out in the AHL but hopefully find his way up soon. At least this way we have some competent bodies that can play in the lineup until he is good and ready so we don't rush him.

I have a feeling that Reilly will either get traded, waived or buried in the AHL. Brannstrom is ready and we need him and Wolanin to gain some NHL experience before JBD and Sanderson graduate to the NHL.

I agree with that. They are probably holding onto Reilly to see if Brannstrom will be ready or not. And if Brannstrom is ready, he can slide nicely into that third pair, but if he's not, Reilly is a good placeholder until he is.
