When do we sell

Created by: Cham
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 16, 2020
Published: Oct. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mostly wondering about when the trades happen (also open to hearing other ideas for returns). Do we sell this off-season and semi-tank (while keeping Kane/Toews/Keith) or do we try and somehow compete (maybe add through FA) and potentially sell at the deadline.

My guess was the former but with how little players are being signed for it seems like a lot of teams have internal caps and may not be able to afford or trade for guys currently which could lower the value if there’s only one or two suitors for a guy.

Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2021 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Justin Holl has negative value at this point plus it works with Stan bringing back players since he drafted him
2.
CHI
  1. Lavoie, Raphael
Additional Details:
DeHaan helps with Klefbom out, could flip him next offseason. Carpenter helps with depth.
EDM
  1. Carpenter, Ryan
  2. De Haan, Calvin ($2,000,000 retained)
3.
CHI
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Could help replace Josh Anderson and I’m sure Torts would love him, only happens if Shaw is healthy and productive

Not sure that they’d want to give up picks since they lost so many but maybe could be part of larger deal for one of their goalies
4.
CHI
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. 2021 1st round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Any cap dump for more picks/prospects (probably someone with less term or AAV)

Holl doesn't have negative value, Murphy is not worth a 1st.

Columbus has no room for yet another depth forward.... even if Shaw is healthy we have players who play the same role as he does.... Columbus has no interest in him.

Holl is undervalued like crazy on this site, he is a perfectly capable shut down D who only got his first shot in the show LAST YEAR. He will have another decent season and end up as an above average 3RD.

Oilers reject. Klef is injured all year and we don’t need more RHD.

Wouldn't call him a shut down D. He is a competent 5/6 guy. Slightly overpaid for the 15-17 minutes he should be playing a night but mostly agree.

Easy there Rocket, we need to keep our 1st rounders. I'd offer a 2nd + a prospect (Lind, Woo, DiPietro, etc).

To be fair my only source for leafs news and opinions is Steve dangle who at least on his last pod was talking about how he fell off a cliff after he signed, my thought was mostly that you get a fairly significant upgrade for just over 1M. I think it would at least fetch a second and third for the hawks and be a good trade for both sides

I don’t get to see many CBJ games but who on the team plays like Shaw (grinder with 0.5 ppg upside) and how much of that is due to Torts making skill guys play physical, two way games.

Well, there's captain Nick Foligno and alternate captain Boone Jenner. And Mikko Koivu's coming in now... we're fine without Shaw.

Folingo, Jenner, Nash, Robinson.... Columbus has enough grinders already. Torts also makes everyone play a solid 2 way game. Plus there’s just no room in the line up with players we already have for Shaw.... imo Shaw, Folingo and Jenner are the same player, and we already have Jenner and Folingo.

It's not just over a mill, its almost double holls salary. He is a good complementary piece beside muzzin at a good number, I would say he's probably over paid by about 250K but I'd rather have Holl at 2M and keep our first over Murphy at 3.85 Mill. Murphy isn't the caliber of dman we need I think he's slightly overrated by some Chicago fans, I'm not saying he is a bad dman just not what we would need with that caphit.
