Description
It's a lower offer to Tampa but the story is going that no one is helping them out so maybe a team just has to be the best of the worst with an offer.

I'm also starting to think they're gonna make a move for a dman and then protect 4 and 4. That Tage Thompson contract has expansion draft bait written all over it if they can get him to score 20 goals with Eichel and Hall this season. "Who doesn't want a 20 goal scorer at 1.4 million for the next 2 years."

Tampa better off to let sergachev get offersheeted and take the draft pick accommodations than they are to accept that.

Draft picks are a gamble. They'll only get a first, second and a third in my opinion... Maybe even as low as just a second or just a first and a third...
Here they get two RHD for their thinnest roster position and a draft pick... I'd switch the second to a first if it made a difference but if someone offered them a package with a first I think he'd be gone already... They don't "need him" with Hedman, McDonagh and Coburn on the left side.

Sergachev would be offersheeted 7+ if he signs one.

Sergachev is going to cost more than that and I think these last playoffs almost made him untouchable at that.

It's almost like not knowing how a salary cap works.

Why trade Ristolainen??

Draft picks are a gamble but trading for Montour, who puts TB over the cap with Cirelli and Cernak still unsigned, isn't a gamble??

To get Sergachev the Sabres would have to trade really good prospects/picks and take a ton of salary back. Sort of like your Ristolainen and Montour trades. Bad trade for NJ, but they take on more cap so the Sabres can afford to sign Sergachev. Bad trade for TB, but the Sabres can't sign Sergachev without it...
