Laine has never publicly indicated a desire to be traded. He has consistently asked for the opportunity to play top line 5 on 5. Winnipeg would forever regret trading Laine. For three seasons, the team has twisted itself in knots to keep Scheifele and Wheeler together. The captain needs to be a leader and the coach has to stop preventing the growth of the graduates of their draft and develop system. I like Stastny but his 6.5M in cap hit could have been better spent on a 1 year deal for a high-end free agent defenseman. Give Laine, Copp, and Rosy the chance to play offensive minutes and extend them early in the year so the Jets don't do into the offseason with those contracts looming.

Whichever of Samberg or Heinola earn the 2LD spot out of camp. I would be very frustrated if the Jets signed a LDH to a longer term contract as the future of the left side is bright. Pionk, DeMelo and Poolman are all mid to bottom pairing guys and unless Niku gets his poop in a group, he will not be that top guy either. A true #1 RHD is actually the largest gap on the team for the foreseeable future. The 2015 line (Harkins-Roslovic-Appleton) have played well as a unit. Give them the chance to earn minutes. Copp and Lowry have great chemistry and anchor one of the best fourth lines in the central. Unless Chevy can find an easy way out of Perreault's final year, he may as well play with them.

Niku and Vesalainen have a final chance to earn a roster spot but the signings on Thompson, Toninato, Forbort, Sbisa and Beaulieu make that a tougher climb. If either can't earn the spot out of training camp, get what you can for them before they age out.
