Description
The hope for the OEL trade is that he'd accept Calgary now that Markstrom is there, plus Lindholm and Andersson. A big reason why he was okay with going to Vancouver was because of the Swedish influence there, and while Calgary doesn't have the Swedish history that Vancouver does, they at least have some Swedes that would be appealing to OEL. I'm not sure what salary hurdles Calgary would then have to go through, as long as it isn't Lucic it can work.

Haula is a great fit for Tocchet's system and would make for a great middle six C while Hayton develops. Getting some assets for taking Tyler Johnson from Tampa helps replenish the draft pick supply, and they can retain on Johnson and trade him in a year or two.

Raanta goes to Buffalo to tandem with Ullmark for at least a year. Retaining on Raanta plus taking back Hutton nets the Coyotes a second round pick and Pekar, who could be a bottom six forward down the line.

This is still a team that can compete for a playoff spot this year and will probably make more moves for the future in the offseason and at the deadline.

You would HAVE to take Lucic for Flames to be cap compliant...

Is there any stipulation by the league that Arizona cannot trade for a 1st in 2021?

And I still wouldn't touch it. Hanifin at is age and contract are far more valuable than OEL because of how terrible his contract will be in 3-4 years.

Buffalo won't give up Pekar for 1 year of Raanta.

We'd do Hutton and that 2nd for Raanta at $2,750,000 though

Raanta only has 2,000,000.00 left on his deal so cannot retain over that and I don't see Arizona taking in all that extra money for Pekar and a 2nd considering they are trying to cut spending

Should be no issue taking Raanta full cap hit if they take back Hutton

OEL was only interested in Vancouver and Boston and he had a self imposed deadline for last week so he isn't getting traded

Agreed but I wouldn't want to give up Pekar in the deal
