I believe there is a subjective argument that these 2 players in Laine and Werenski are of comparable value.
I chose Bjorkstrand for a couple of reasons. Adding Laine (and presumably Roslovic) when you already have Atkinson and Nyquist on the right side plus OB needs a new deal after next season and it will be north of 5 I believe. Rosy has 4 years left of team control. plus the bet is hedged with Niku and a 2nd rd pick.

I'm actually being driven nuts by these wingers for Norris caliber defenseman trades. If it's not: ovechkin, Kane, panarin, kucherov level winger (I know age would negate value on a couple in these trades) no gm in their right mind would do these.

If the Jets had a different need I would target a different position. I dont think a 22 yr old "Richard caliber" winger for a "Norris caliber" Dman is a stretch.
I understand this does not mean he is a more valuable player and there are many circumstances to consider but ... Its very very likely Laines next contract will be of a higher $ value than Werenski's. Does that not suggest he is valued higher? Just a thought.

Scorers typically get paid more yes. But defensemen win championships. Look at the last 20-30 cup winners and you'll notice c and d followed closely by g is where they have their best players. Ovechkin is a top 20 all time player but it's no fluke he won his cup with a flourishing kuznetsov, backstrom, Carlson to help out. Wingers are important but they will never effect a game the way the other positions do.

I do not disagree my friend! My point is, as we all know, Laine apparently wants out and the Jets have a specific hole to fill (well they have several but the most glaring). I dont believe they will accept a deal for Laine unless it has a return something along these lines. Or the fan base will riot.

I think a hanifin, pesce, ekholm, type guy packaged with a second line winger would work, still very good defesemen, just not at that elite level.

This would be an absolute steal for the Jets lol
