You could take out Seguin and the 2nd and Stars still decline.

Heiskanen > Rielly come on now. Even if you want to argue that they are equal right now the future value of Heiskanen is definitely better

No we don't. Heiskanen can play either side and before you know it Sandin will be a top 4 guy as well

Tavares is much better than Seguin and Heiskanen is better than Rielly. I think Dallas declines cuz they are taking on too much cap and giving up Heiskanen who is on an ELC is too much.

This will be highly controversial. I as a leafs fan don't make that trade, for a couple reasons.
1) Tavares is a much more consistent center and producer.
2) though Rielly is better at this moment heiskanen will be better but he will also fall into the category of massive contract after entry level and likely being more than the cost to resign an already great and established player in Rielly
3) the leafs cannot afford to move first round picks WITH core players who are expected to carry the team, and I personally do not think Seguin is someone who can be trusted to carry the load

Conclusion. Both teams decline.

Right now there is no doubt that Rielly > Heiskanen

Heiskanen has more potential but ask Alexandre Daigle, Luke Schenn, Victor Mete. That can all change fast. SO both teams Decline but the trade favors Dallas

Did you guys see him in the playoffs? If Dallas won the cup he'd get the Conn Smythe. He's better than Rielly and better than most defensemen in the league. Rielly's still good though.

Seemingly, being defensively solid only applies to some people. I swear y'all will lynch Nylander while being above league average but praise Rielly who's one of the worst defensive D's in the league. I still think Rielly has a lot of value, especially playing sheltered minutes, but he's no Heiskanen who you can start in any zone vs any competition.

while I disagree on your sentiment regarding Rielly's defensive play, I agree that Heiskanen is better. I think Rielly's defensive play is a lot better than people give him credit for, especially after that McDavid dangle while Mo played hurt.

I guess that sole data point changes everything...

He's still good, but so is Nylander - who isn't even bad defensively. I just can't understand it. You just open fort both directions with Rielly. And luckily he's even better offensively, but by any data he's garbage in his own end.
