Few More Moves

Description
All the Laine rumors surrounding the Flyers I figure maybe people won't just flat out say no to my proposal. Ghost goes home to Florida, maybe that will be a good change of scenery for him. Myers gets locked up for a few years at a good number if he's able to be a top pair defenseman.

Next year you'd have Gus, Laughton, Raffl, and Elliot off the books. Cap is not going up, I know that, so it's going to be a tight squeeze to fit everything IF you can't get Seattle to take JVR, or send him elsewhere for a cap dump. If you can do that, another 7 mil off the books and you should have no problem giving raises to Hart, Laine, Patrick, etc. and bring in ELC's like Frost and Zamula/York to fill out the roster.

Do I think this is too much to give up for Laine with 1 year remaining on his deal? Yes...but if you're going to acquire a 30-40 goal scorer you're going to give up something you'd like to hang on to, that's the way it works

I think the jets at least consider. However, I’m still not convince moving laine is a good idea. We don’t exactly have anymore talents of his level (except schiefele) and our forward group is built around him. But if we had to move him, this is the best offer I’ve seen

Yes, I said that in my description. Should I propose Ghost, Patrick and a 1st like every other Laine proposal and get roasted for that not being what Winnipeg would want, can't just send all your depreciated assets and get a 40-goal scorer? If you wan't to get a 40 goal scorer you are going to lose a good player and more...that's a fact

Now that Stastny is back I agree, they could see how it goes with Laine this season and if he can have chemistry with a different C, but all the reports and talk around this situation just make it seem like the relationship with the player and the team are at least a little sour. It could be best for both parties to move on

I don’t think they are sour tbh. Laine wants a deserves a better role. His role as one of the best goal scorers in the league is under question because Maurice won’t play him with laine. He could easily net 40+ goals with a competent top 6 centre and laine knows that. I would be pushing for the same if I could be mentioned in the same breath as Ovie and even be called his heir. So the jets should give him what he wants.

It could also be a negotiation tactic. Chevy is notorious for being a tough negotiator so this could be a classic game of chicken much like Gallagher played with bergevin the day before he signed.

Laine’s agents could just be threatening Chevy to uo his price on contract extension talks.

That said, I think if the jets give laine what he wants, he will stay. He just wants to play with the best and he deserves it over wheeler at this point. Anyways, i think wheeler will be much more effective in 18-20 minutes than 22+ at this point in his career
