He was, and really I think the top four are fairly interchangeable

Over the whole decade, Karl is number one and it's not close. He was untouchable in his prime, and was absolutely robbed of two Norris trophies in 15-16 and 16-17. Even in his "down years" in San Jose he's still produced at an elite level for a Dman.

Don’t think Burns should be here, he’s only been top tier like the last 5 years and even played a season and a half or so at forward. I’d probably slide Weber in there, maybe Suter.

Karlsson not being top two is a crime, he was the best D in the league for at LEAST half the decade, and top 5 for probably 4 or 5 of the remaining years, never being less than elite (even though injuries cost him a step the last year of the decade, he still produced offensively). You could argue Keith was better cuz 3 cups but overall I’d still take EK65 on pretty much any given year if we’re purely talking about the best player. Not even Doughty comes close imo as far as the rest of the pack is concerned.

Burns is a special player but I would have Weber in my top 5 over him. It’s tough to rank them 1-5 in Minnesota opinion because their credentials are all a little bit different. Of course this is up for debate, but here’s my opinion:
Doughty and Hedman are the most talented. They brought the best combo of offense, defense, skating, physicality, and IQ.
Karlsson is the most impactful, especially in his prime. Everything Ottawa did ran through him.
Keith is the most successful - 3 Stanley Cups, 2 Olympic Gold Medals, a Norris and a Conn Smythe
Weber may be the best defender/hardest to play against out of that group.

For me if I could have it me at absolute best it's probably doughty, but like I said top four are fairly interchangeable
